Does Your Heartburn?

It’s an awful feeling isn’t it. Heartburn. There’s not too many who haven’t experienced it at some stage in their lives in the western world. You know the feeling. The pain associated with it is bad enough let alone the regret you also suffer through knowing you could have prevented it this time.

How does the regret go? Let me enlighten you. You suddenly sit upright in bed in the middle of the night. It’s like someone took a torch and lit your stomach. You think… “I knew I shouldn’t have tried to stuff that extra piece of fried chicken in …aaggh!” Or “I knew I shouldn’t have eaten spicy tonight. But it looked and tasted so good. When will I ever learn. Never again…never again! It hurts so much… please stop!

Hey don’t worry. I’ve been in that situation many times. But I’m happy to say I’ve been almost heartburn free for several years just through taking some simple steps. Just like my friend Kate from Atlanta. I rang Kate the other day and funny enough, heartburn came up in discussion. Oh no, don’t worry, we’re not a couple of hypocondriacs who constantly discuss our medical conditions everytime we chat. But we did reminisce on this one occasion.

I asked Kate how she’s feeling knowing she loved to indulge.

“Hey, I know what you’re getting at but let me tell you buddy, I’m letting heartburn go,” she forcibly replied.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“I’ve made a few simple changes. Ain’t no way I’m going through that again to that extent,” she says with the relief noticeable in her tone.

“What changes; what extent?” I asked revving her up knowing she would react because of the lectures I’d given her in the past about avoiding heartburn. Maybe I just wanted to get a “you told me so” out of her.

There was a slight pause on the other end.

“Well Dino, without trying to sound like I’ve become a wowser… no more excessise amounts of fried food; spicy food is definitely out; since we last caught up I’ve lost a good deal of weight and you know my habit of trying to fit into clothes two sizes too small?”

“Do I ever,” I’d respond sarcastically.

“Careful,” she says in a threatening voice. “Anyway, they’re all a thing of the past. I’m not going through heartburn again as long as I can help it. No more feeling that my chest is on fire. No more not being able to lie down or sitting back. That feeling of starting at the bottom of your stomach and burning through your body. No buddy boy, I’ve taken steps.”

Sounding stunned I’d ask… “What, no more alcohol?”

“Heeeyy, in moderation,” would be her swift reply.

“Sounds like you’re about ready to join the order of the nuns,” I’d respond with a smirky tone.

With a forceful giggle she’d admit…”I’d look good wearing fashionable headwear and a long gown!”

Kate decided to make some simple changes. So did I. For me, heartburn got to a stage similar to visiting the dentist. I had gum problems several years ago which constituted regular visits to the dentist. Despite his best efforts to make me feel as comfortable as possible each visit resulted in some degree of pain. Pain was always my ongoing memory of a dental visit. So much so that in the end, I kept thinking to myself… “enough is enough, I can’t stand the pain anymore!” So you know what I did? I started taking the dentist’s advice and started flossing my teeth everyday and started cleaning my teeth everyday.

The same “pimple” burst with my heartburn. A tweak here and a tweak there and voila!

No more regrets. No more I “shoulda” – “coulda” – “woulda.” And you know what? It’s been just great!

Improve Your Visitors Experience – Add Scripts to Your Website

free  Comments Off on Improve Your Visitors Experience – Add Scripts to Your Website
Oct 102022

For new webmasters, adding third-party software and scripting to a website can be a really scary proposition. I remember when I put my first scripts on my own website. Even with my basic dos programming experience in high school, I was still intimidated by the whole process. I was so sure that I was going to screw something up.

The very first script I ever installed on my website was a Graphical Counter from BigNoseBird.com (http://www.bignosebird.com/carchive/counter.shtml). I ended up spending five days playing with the script to get it to display just the way I wanted it displayed.

The second script I ever installed was a Recommend This Page To A Friend script, also from BigNoseBird.com (http://www.bignosebird.com/carchive/birdcast.shtml).

How Scripts Differ From Ordinary HTML

Basic web building uses HTML. HTML is simply a markup language that helps you display text and images within a web page.

Most of us know the basics of how to build a webpage in HTML. Others use website design software that interprets the requests of the user to build a webpage in HTML.

In its most basic understanding, “scripting” is the process of programming webpages to perform certain calculations, which will affect how information is displayed on the webpage.

If you fill out a form on a website and hit send, chances are that you are engaging a script of some sort to interpret the information that you have sent to the website. If you return to a website and it knows your username and password, then a script has been involved in the process to make your return visit much simpler. If you see a list of the most recent posts on a website, then a script was used to make that information appear for your consumption.

Scripting is most often handled in Javascript, VBscript (Microsoft’s answer to Javascript), PHP or Perl. Each one is different in its structure and utilization.

Javascript can be added within the actual HTML of a webpage, and it will fire when the page is loaded or when a request is made. One way that I have recently seen Javascript used was for a page that was doing a countdown of how much time remains until their scheduled event. I have actually used Javascript to put news feeds across the top of my webpages. Some Javascript is usually placed in the page header, between the HEAD tags within the HTML. Other Javascript is placed in the HTML body where the Javascript activities are intended to appear.

VBscript works in the same manner as Javascript, but needs to reside on a Microsoft Windows server.

PHP and Perl are more appropriately designated as languages. Both are file types, and both allow you to design an entire website or parts of a website to perform specific actions or functions.

A function is defined as, “Functions (also known as subroutines and procedures) are chunks of code – parts of programs – which can be called from another part of the program. Generally, functions greatly enhance the space-efficiency and maintainability of computer programs.”

PHP and Perl Usage

Most servers have PHP and Perl functionality built into the web hosting accounts. However, not all web hosting companies are comfortable offering Perl (CGI-Bin) access to their users.

The reason why many web hosts shudder at the thought of making the Perl libraries available to their users is because Perl is a very powerful scripting language. In the hands of the wrong person(s), Perl access in a server can be used to bring great harm upon the server.

In order to operate Perl scripts, you must have the ability to change and set file permissions on any file that resides on your web hosting account. If you have just a basic Yahoo hosting account, you will not be able to use any Perl applications on your website. Some web hosts prohibit Perl usage at any level.

PHP is a new language that came about over the last few years. It has been designed to allow people who do not have Perl access to still have the ability to do scripting on their domain.

PHP generally does not require that you have access to file permissions. In Perl, executable files must carry permissions of 755. In PHP, most files will only be required to carry permissions of 644, which are the same permissions a standard webpage carries.

Fortunately for Perl programmers like me, PHP operates in many of the same manners that Perl programs operate. The learning curve from Perl to PHP is not very big at all.

Perl and PHP Bring With Them Powerful Libraries of Functions

What makes Perl and PHP as powerful as they are is the fact that both utilize functions very well. Basically, a function will carry out one specific task, and it will be able to be called from anywhere in your software.

Generally, one of the very first actions to be taken in a script is to INCLUDE all other files that are needed to operate the software. The additional files generally carry many of the functions that will be used in the software.

Then the software proceeds to carry out all of the necessary functions in order to build a webpage in a specific, pre-defined manner.

Programmers decide that there is a task that they perform often, and then they build it into a function. In time, the programmer will usually make his function available to the programming community. And eventually, if the function is exceptionally useful, then the function will be bundled in new releases of the basic Perl or PHP build. All of these additional functions are made available as the functions library.

How To Find Perl and PHP Scripts to Use On Your Website

There are actually many places you can go to find scripts to use for your websites. Some websites offer directories of free and paid scripts. Some websites will let you have their scripts if they can have your email address.

Additionally, there are literally thousands of websites and hundreds of books that will teach you how to write your own scripts in any of these languages.

When I am in the mood to improve my coding abilities, I like going to: http://www.planetsourcecode.com/ Planet Source Code offers full scripts and pieces of scripts, with feedback, that will teach me to be a better programmer.

My favorite place for locating scripts to download for free or to buy is: http://www.resourceindex.com/

The Resource Index has one part of their site dedicated to Perl scripts: http://cgi.resourceindex.com/

They also have one part of their site dedicated to PHP scripts: http://php.resourceindex.com/

Another decent site for locating scripts is at: http://www.hotscripts.com/

Many individual programmers also offer a lot of good software for purchase or for free. A few of the good ones will be:

http://www.scriptarchive.com/
http://www.bignosebird.com/
http://www.willmaster.com/

In Conclusion…

If you have ever told yourself, “it would be cool (or useful) if I could do this for my website’s visitors,” then you are in the market to learn how to use scripts on your website.

If you have imagined it, chances are someone has programmed it. If they have programmed it, then you will either be able to download it for free, or to buy it at a very reasonable cost.

Before you plunk down your money to buy a program or script, be sure that the programmer is willing to show you the script in action. If it doesn’t do what you want it to do, don’t buy it. If it does do what you want to do, then by all means, do consider purchasing the software for use on your own site.

When programmers offer their software for sale, their documentation is usually pretty good. They will tell you what steps you need to take to install it on your server, and they will tell you how to operate the software.

It is very realistic to believe that if you like what the software does, you can have it live and operational on your website in less than 30 minutes in most cases.

Good luck. I will be around later to see what cool stuff you have added to your website. 😉

7 Key Ways to Attract the Life You Want

free  Comments Off on 7 Key Ways to Attract the Life You Want
Oct 092022

The Law of Attraction means that like is attracted unto like. If we can align our vibration with what we truly desire, then we can attract anything that we want into our lives. Attracting what we want is actually quite a subtle process.

In fact I see using the Law of Attraction consciously as creating the spaces to attract what you truly desire and here are 7 ways to enable that process and make it much more easy and effortless for you (as long as you get out of your own way) to attract the life you want.

1. Know that you are a Creator

……..and become a Conscious one. Most of us operate as though we are victims of circumstance, powerless over what happens to us. We are always creating our situations and circumstances, but it is often unconscious and we are not harnessing our innate power to create the lives we want. But once this is realised (and more importantly, acted upon), this is completely liberating.

2. Know Your Values

Values are represent who we are and what defines us. They are our blueprint.

When we understand what our values are then it is much easier to to live an authentic. Values are what drives us and provide us with energy and motivation – whether we are aware of them or not. If you set goals (by no means mandatory incidentally), ensure that they are aligned and fully congruent with your values. Uncover your values first and set goals to suit. You’re much more likely to achieve them.

3. Harness and Focus Your Energy

This is pivotal. It’s more difficult to attract what you desire in life if you’re constantly tired and fatigued. The Law of Attraction means that you’ll attract more of the same. And it’s hard to receive what the Universe wants to give you if you are out of the office firefighting all the time. Learn to identify what gives you energy and what drains you. Your diet, environment, level of self care, the people you mix with (beware of energy vampires!) all influence your level of energy. Energetic techniques and processes like EFT and Reiki will help clear your energy blockages.

4. Use Your Intuition

Your intuition is your internal Guidance Protection System. It is that quiet voice which alerts you to opportunities and keeps you out of danger. When I follow my intuition, things have a habit of going well and when I don’t, they go awry. Intuition finds it hard to be heard if you’re stressed and tired, but if you plug those energy leaks (see no 3), you will allow your intuitive voice to be heard. Take notice of it.

5. Release Resistance

We often get in our own way in blocking what we want. And one of the ways in which we do this is by resisting and refusing to let go of old thoughts, attitudes, beliefs and even desires. It often manifests itself in “busyness” (so you don’t have time to think!), inflexibility and “shoulding” on yourself. Set your intention to evaluate your beliefs and ask if they still serve you well. If not, then you know what to do.

6. Be here now

Enjoy the present moment. The Power of Now. Because that is all there is. Free yourself from the weight of the past or dread of the future. Practice mindfulness and be in each moment. Schedule downtime for yourself every day, to give your brain/body/spirit a chance to breathe. Keep a gratitude/appreciation journal to help you focus on the abundance that you have right here, right now.

7. Design supportive environments

Personal Growth is called Personal Growth for a reason. We are continually growing and evolving, but our physical environments often remain the same. If our physical environment is not working for us then one of the symptoms is of trying and efforting too hard, for little return. It is like planting our seeds on barren ground. It doesn’t always necessitate a move – just a recognition that some of our “stuff” that we hang onto is holding us back.

Attracting what we want into our lives is as much a process of letting go as it is actively pursuing what we want. In fact going after our goals with a vengeance can be counterproductive. Effort doesn’t always equal productivity or outcome. In fact the amount of effort can often seem disproportional to the actual result.

Get out of your own way and use any of the above tools to help you attract the life you want.

Seven Steps to De-Clutter Your Home for Sale

free  Comments Off on Seven Steps to De-Clutter Your Home for Sale
Oct 082022

Your home may be in good condition and well built, yet simple clutter will create a perception of chaos, confusion, and disorder. The purchase decision is an emotional and intellectual response, based on a level of trust in your home. When buyers see clutter, they assume that the home has been neglected, with more to fix than meets the eye. This perception undermines your home’s market value.

De-cluttering is an essential part of your preparation, and is virtually cost free. This activity is goes hand in hand with moving. Before you put your home on the market, have a garage sale, throw some things out, and box stuff up. Your move will be easier, and you will create an open, spacious, simplified look that buyers love. If you need support, a local home staging service can work with your furniture and create a whole new look. When it comes to selling your home, less is truly more.

1) Front Yard

De-cluttering starts with your front yard. Make sure the yard is mowed and edged, and remove toys, junk piles, empty flower pots, etc.

An evenly cut yard is pleasing to the eye. Fertilize the grass a month or two ahead.

Overgrown, woody shrubs give an old, tired look. Trim or remove them.

Do not allow shrubs to cover windows. They block light on the interior, and give an appearance of crowding on the exterior.

Coil hoses and place any tools inside the garage.

Find a place to store extra cars or boats – other than the front of your house.

De-clutter flower beds. Mulch is inexpensive (about $2.00 per bag), and does wonders to simplify garden beds, especially in winter when plants are thin. Add flowers on the porch or in beds if weather permits.

Too many flowerpots are distracting – use a few large pots with healthy plants.

Never have empty pots or dead plants sitting around.

Dried wreaths may be used on doors in winter, for a simple focal point.

2) Entry

The buyers’ first impression is critical, and shapes their attitude throughout the showing.

Invest in a brand new welcome mat.

Stains, scratches and dirty spots create distractions to the eye, and are a form of clutter. Clean, paint, and eliminate as many of these as possible.

Pay close attention to your front door. Is it dirty, darkened by mildew, or in need of re-finishing?

Fresh paint or stain will make a huge difference.

Consider having your whole house power washed to remove stains, spider webs and other clutter.

The foyer should be clear of shoes, coats, or excess items on the walls.

Create a single focal point in the entry with an attractive table or painting.

3) Living Areas

Rooms should be sparsely furnished to appear larger and lighter.

The garage or an off-site storage room can be used to hold extra pieces of furniture.

Move large pieces of equipment – drums, telescopes, exercise equipment, etc. – to the garage or off-site.

Do not allow furniture to block windows, doorways, or traffic patterns through rooms.

Do not allow wires to cross traffic patterns.

Choose one or two elements as the main points of interest in a room – wood floors, a view, a table or piece of furniture, a nicely made bed, etc.

Too many personal collections and photographs are distracting for buyers.

Buyers must be able to imagine their own family in the home.

A few decorative items or photographs on tables are fine, but reduce these to just a few nice pieces.

Remove hunting trophies. They can be overwhelming in a small room, and may bother some buyers.

Large plants often take up too much space. Allow only a few healthy plants in the house.

Bookshelves add a warm touch to a room, but be sure that they are not overloaded.

Place books so that the backs are even. Lay some books horizontally, and leave open space for art
objects.

Open window blinds and leave on a few lamps for pleasant lighting.

4) Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of the home and plays an important part in attracting the heart of a buyer. This is an active area that usually needs special attention.

Clean, evenly finished cabinetry is a must. Add new paint or stain, if necessary.

Benjamin Moore Paints has a product called “Howard’s Restore-a-finish” that works wonders on scratched or worn cabinets.

New cabinet pulls are an inexpensive item that can help tie the room together in terms of colors and finishes.

Remove purely functional items – such as baking pans, small appliances, vitamins, phone books, plastic bags, etc.

Do not have notes or photos on the refrigerator.

Clear the counters completely, then add back a few decorator items.

Choose decorative pieces that contribute to a warm, elegant, organized look.

Some suggestions: Flowers, fruit, cookbooks, wine, bowls, antiques, new dish towels, small designer appliances, etc.

Often the area under the sink needs organizing and cleaning.

Never leave trash containers out in the kitchen.

5) Bathrooms

It is important to de-clutter bathrooms to give them a touch of elegance or romance.

Keep in mind that you will give up some privacy during the marketing period.

Start by removing everything from the counters.

Remove any toilet brushes or cleaners that are visible.

Put items that you use daily – toothbrushes, soaps, razors – in a container, and place the container inside in a cabinet.

Decorate with fresh soaps, flowers, bowls, photos, or designer bath items.

Invest in new towels and fold them carefully.

Never leave medicines, money, x rated magazines, jewelry, guns, or personal possessions of this type on display.

6) Bedrooms

Bedrooms should appear restful and serene. Sparsely furnished is best.

Use your best covers, or invest in new ones if yours are worn.

Clear off bedside tables, and add back just a few books or nice items.

Bedside lamps add a warm ambience for showings.

Remove excess paintings or photos from the walls.

In some cases, old curtains do more harm than good. Take them down and clean the windows for a fresh look.

Children’s bedrooms usually need to be simplified. Take down posters and box up toys. Avoid an overcrowded look.

7) Closets

Organize your pantry with everything facing forward. Remove excess food and containers.

Relieve your closets if they are stuffed. Pack items that are not needed.

The laundry room often functions as a spill over room with junk on the shelves. Clear everything out, and have just a few soap boxes visible.

Often sellers have organized their homes to express themselves – their travels, collections, interests, favorite colors and unique tastes. However, when selling a home, the goal is just the opposite. It is to create a clean, simple background that many different buyers would like to move into. Excess items and clutter confuses and distracts buyers during showings. They should not be required to “look past” your possessions. They are there to see if your house fits them, and their emotional level response is a strong factor in their decision. Warm, clean, simple, spacious, well lighted, neutral – and uncluttered – these are the keys to getting the best price for your home.

New York City, aptly named “The Big Apple” and the “city that never sleeps,” represents one of the great international centers of finance, politics, communications, music, culture, and fashion. Home to numerous, world-class museums, venues, and sights, this city is one of the most cosmopolitan in the world. Imbued with a rich sense of history and culture, there are many attractions for visitors to see and visit.
Statue of Liberty (http://www.nps.gov/stli/)

The Statue of Liberty is another must see in New York, but don’t bother going into the museum unless you really want to. Visitors aren’t allowed to the top of the Statue of Liberty anymore because of security issues. You are thoroughly frisked in an exhaustive security check, and have to reserve a time to visit in advance. You would be better off seeing the Statue of Liberty from the ferry that takes you to Ellis Island. The Immigration Museum at Ellis Island is worth a visit, and it is free. The ferry ($10) leaves every 25 minutes from Battery Park and stops at Liberty Island and Ellis Island.
Central Park
Possibly one of the more infamous locations in New York, Central Park is the stuff of American legend. With its beautiful greenery, sprawling lawns, and lakes, Central park in highly popular with outdoor enthusiasts and concert goers. It hosts a number of concert venues and is home to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Central Park Zoo.
Times Square
Another bit of American history, Times Square is a must-see for posterity. In actuality, Times Square is impressive, but it is also highly commercialized and caters mostly to tourists. The “old “Times Square is located near Broadway and the Port Authority Bus Terminal. It has become quite seedy, and thus a “new” Times Square, located blocks away from the old Times Square, has emerged that is a family-friendly, highly commercialized area of themed restaurants, theaters and hotels.
Cathedral of St. John The Divine (http://www.stjohndivine.org)
The Cathedral of St. john the Divine is the world’s largest Gothic cathedral and has been a work-in-progress for over a century. Beautiful Gothic architecture and exquisite stained glass windows only add to the loveliness of this amazing building. If you’re in New York, don’t miss the cathedral. It is an incredible sight, and one that rivals the European churches it emulates.
Carnegie Hall (http://www.carnegiehall.org/intro.jsp)
Carnegie Hall is yet another staple of American history, having housed some of this century’s most amazing musicians and performers. Unless you can afford the tickets for a concert, be content wandering through the beautiful building and looking at pictures of past performers and beautiful people.
Empire State Building (http://www.esbnyc.com/)
This famous building sits on the equally renowned fifth avenue and was for many years the tallest building in the US. Synonymous with New York, this building, more than any other, personifies the sleek, urban, and cultured New York atmosphere.
World Trade Center Site

The site of the of the September 11th terrorist attacks has become popular with visitors. If you were in New York prior to 9/11, you will be astounded at the emptiness. The previous twin towers have been replaced with memorial pools that are quite beautiful, and various plaques are on display documenting the history of the WTC.
Chrysler Building
The Chrysler Building is the epitome of Art Deco architecture and one of the most beautiful and well-known buildings in the world. Visiting the lobby is a must, but you’re not allowed up top unless you are on business.

An Online Home Based Business: What if it does work?

I don’t know a thing about you, but I’ll bet you’ve decided to start your own
online home based business. You’ve read about others doing it and making tons of
money, having not only the financial freedom, but time freedom as well to do
whatever they want, whenever they want. I bet you can just see yourself living
that lifestyle that most people just dream about and so you ask yourself, “What
if it does work?”

Yep, you’re excited, because you’ve made the decision to change your life and
go after that freedom and lifestyle. In fact you’re so excited that you want to
tell everyone that you’re going to start your own online home based business.
Well, you’d think that they would be happy for you and give you their support
and backing. But, oh no, what do they say? “You must be crazy.” “You don’t know
how to do that.” “Nobody really makes any money except the ones who get in
early.” Well, maybe they’re right, but you just keep thinking, “What if it does
work?” and you think, you don’t have to be great to start, but, you have to
start in order to be great.

So, just how do you get started? After all, they were right when they said,
“You don’t know how to do that.” What you need is more information and a plan
for success; but what you really want is someone to who has already done what
you want to do to help guide you along. You want a mentor or teacher that has
already been there and done that, and is willing to help you succeed. There you
go dreaming again. Is there really that kind of help out there? And how do I
find it? “What if it does work?”

Now, it’s time to start researching and since you want to start an online
home-based marketing business, what a better place to start than online. Start
searching the web for all that “How to Do” stuff. Check out home-based business
forums, newsletters and affiliate marketing sites. Most of this stuff is free,
so your budget is still intact. Look for e-Books about online marketing.
Remember, “You can’t build a reputation on what you’re going to do.” Do it now
because, “What if it does work?”

So, instead of only reading about making money online, I started searching
for businesses already on the internet. I searched for keywords like ‘online
business opportunity’, ‘internet business’, ‘home based-business’, etc., hoping
that I would find out and learn how to get started in my own online business.
After all, I was still thinking and asking myself, “What if it does work?”

Well, what I found was that there were thousands of different links to all
sorts of different kinds of “online business opportunities” that all claimed to
be successful and making lots of money and all I had to do is join them and I
too would become successful and be making lots of money. At this point, I was
overwhelmed, but I still hadn’t found anyone telling or showing me exactly how
they did it or how I could do it.

What I needed was a blueprint, roadmap, or specific plan that I could follow
to become successful myself. By now, I was becoming convinced that if I had a
blueprint or plan to follow, I could find out for myself, the answer to the
question, “What if it does work?”

It was while I was reading an article similar to this one that I clicked on
to a link that changed everything. It linked me to a ‘turn-key, blueprinted,
follow-the-plan, successful online business. Well, as they now say, “That’s all
history”, because I now have my own successful online business and now you won’t
have to worry about “What if it does work?” because I’m telling you “It does
work!”

To help you get started, here is a website that shows a few online home based
business sites that you can plug right into to help you out.

So there you have it. Some simple, cost-effective, no-risk, blueprints to

WHEAT: A Problem Food for Every Body

free  Comments Off on WHEAT: A Problem Food for Every Body
Oct 052022

Wheat is one of the most common food allergens that has long been associated with a host of symptoms. Regardless of whether or not you have a known or suspected allergy, sensitivity, or intolerance to wheat, it is wise for everyone to limit or avoid this staple grain altogether for several reasons.

1 ~ We eat way too much wheat in this country. For many it is the only grain they ever eat. This is problematic because it means missing out on the many nutrients that other grains have to offer. In addition, eating the same foods over and over can tax the system, deplete specific enzymes, and lead to intolerances down the road.

2 ~ Unless you are the rare person who cooks up bowls of wheat berries, which is its whole grain form, all of the wheat being served up in this country is processed – the overwhelming majority of which, is highly processed into white refined flour.

White refined flour and the many products made from it – pasta, breads, cereals, pastries, cookies and more – are devoid of most vital nutrients and fiber. These foods are so devitalized they are actually anti-nutrients that deplete the body of vitamins, minerals, and enzymes in order to process them.

Unfortunately, even many of the products labeled “whole wheat” are themselves highly processed, and also frequently contain white refined flour and refined sugars as well. Check the label!

3 ~ Wheat in any form, processed or not, is challenging to digest and eliminate due to its high gluten content. Remember as a child mixing flour and water to make glue? It is gluten that gave this mixture its sticky, glue-like consistency.

Gluten is a mixture of gum-like, water-insoluble plant proteins found in many grains, and wheat has the highest gluten content of them all. Great stuff for binding paper mache, not so good for the intestines – or any other part of the digestive and eliminative tract, for that matter.

4 ~ Because it is so difficult to digest and eliminate, wheat is a notorious mucous-producer and inflammatory agent known to cause or contribute to a host of dis-eases, including: arthritis, sinus problems, constipation, diarrhea, bowel disorders, fatigue, yeast infections, liver & gallbladder congestion, mental disorders, insomnia, and suppressed immune function. Is That Your Check Book Driving Away

Is Your Check Book On The Curb
—————————-
This is an article about people throwing away their home computers with all their financial and banking information on them and easily accessible. A very simple first step to financial and identity theft and it happens all the time. Computer Disposal and Identity Theft go hand in hand.

Since Hurricane Wilma, our city has stepped up bulk trash pickup to every month. Bulk pickup is when you can put out pretty much anything; dressers, vacuum cleaners, and of course computers. Early in the morning on each bulk pickup day people come around with pickup trucks to see what they can grab prior to the city trucks showing up. Some are looking for throwaways that can be refurbished and re-soled, while others work for charities that are looking to provide less fortunate people with items that are useful.

Identity Theft & Home Computer Disposal
————————————————–
This morning my wife reminds me that not only is it trash day, it is bulk pickup day (And for some people, possibly Identity Theft day). So I take out the trash and put out the other large items. As I approach the curb, a truck full of discarded goodies pulls around the corner. He asks me if I am throwing that stuff, and if so could he put it on his truck. I said sure, and lifted it on to an already huge pile of discards. When he drove away, guess what I saw on top of the pile, three desktop computers, and one laptop. From the look of them, they were a few years old. I wonder why they were put out on the curb? Where they inoperable, or did their owner just get tired of how slow they were and bought a new one? Even if they weren’t working quite right, I wonder how much effort it would take to repair them, probably not much.

Throwing Away your Computer, Money, and Identity
—————————-
Jackson Morgan, a contributing author for Defending The Net, wrote an article called “Computer Disposal – Throwing Away Your Computer, Money, and Identity” a few months ago. In this article, he interviewed people at the dump to see what was on their discarded computers. And the results were quite surprising, actually, to us they were not surprising. And now I am writing this article to give you my own personal experience / observation

Do You Take Computer Security and Identity Theft Seriously
———————————————————-
There are so many articles written about wireless security, Internet security, and computer security and how your identity and private information can be stolen. Some people are really concerned about this. I wonder how many of those discarded PC’s on the truck this morning had owners that secured their wireless Internet connection? I wonder how many of those computers had their hard drives removed or destroyed. More importantly, I found myself wondering where those computers were going to end up?

Someone Just Sold A Thief Your Checking Account
———————————————–
Let’s think up a reasonable and viable scenario. Let’s say that this gentleman is working with a charity. This charity takes discarded, yet useful items and cleans them up and distributes them to people who are less fortunate or down on their luck. One of the PC’s really had no problems except that it was loaded with Spyware and Adware and needed a thorough cleaning inside and out. This was a great find, the Operating System is intact, and it’s full of useful applications. Applications like Microsoft Office, and more importantly, QuickBooks. The computer is given to someone who cannot afford such a convenience, and all is well. Then about a week goes buy and something pops up on the screen. What do we have here, a QuickBooks reminder and notification of account balances. And look at that, a checking account with $80,000 in it. I wonder what else this computer contains. And were going to find out because there is no password to get into the application.

I don’t know about you, and I am sure several people are going to think I’m being harsh with my following statements, but this scenario scares the you know what out of me. This does not apply to all those who are down on their luck, but how many people in a situation like this would ignore the information or be tempted to further investigate it. What if they already have little to lose? What could they do with this information and access to someone else’s financial information. Maybe they don’t do anything with it directly, but there is someone they know who would be willing to pay for access to a bank account with $80,000 in it. Not to mention the rest of the information that is most likely on the computer. Wouldn’t be ironic if your financial information fell into the hands of a thief for $300? All because someone else was trying to help someone out.

Conclusion
———-
I find it quite strange that many people are concerned about the technical aspect of security yet overlook the most basic things. Do yourself a favor, before putting a computer out on the curb, take out the hard drive and label it “destroy” and take it to local metal shop when you have a chance. They can cut in into tiny little pieces or melt it down for you. Don’t think because you have just a home PC that you don’t need to have a userID and password to login to it. You do need this, for many reasons. Also, buy yourself an inexpensive paper shredder and make sure to shred all your important, but no longer needed paper documents. If you think you can’t lose everything you have worked for over the last 10 to 20 years by making just a tiny mistake your are quite mistaken.
