I Happened Upon A Book That Shattered My Illusions

Back in 2000 I wrote a book “Starting an Internet Business at Home” which was published in hard copy format by Kogan Page (ISBN 0749434848).

It is currently out of print but in its day it was considered hot stuff and sold over 20,000 copies in bookstores world wide.

At the time I though I knew all there was to know about online marketing but a few days ago I happened across a little book by another author that shattered my illusions and exposed how little I really know.

It reveals the astonishing story of how the writer took a single idea and turned it into $37,641.85 in just 24 days.

Moreover, he demonstrates step by step exactly how he did it.

So what did I learn that I didn’t know before?

Manifold gems of wisdom on online marketing, including…

1. The building blocks to conducting effective online market research

2. How to develop products in obscure but highly popular niche areas

3. How to create them seamlessly and inexpensively

4. Why falling in love with your produce is the worst mistake you can make

5. An ingenious and incredibly simple strategy for attracting JV partners

6. How to use other people’s websites to jack up overall sales

7. A little known but highly reputable POD (print on demand) source where the pricing starts at $5.95 for just ONE book – perfect bound with ISBN and free shipping to customers

Oh, and lots of other useful things, but especially how to repeat another author’s proven format over and over again.

So what will I do with my new found wisdom?

Two things in the first instance…

 First off I will breathe some fresh life into several of my own existing self-generated products that started with a bang and died off soon after like damp squibs. Now I know (thanks to another author) how to re-launch them to new heights – and keep them up there.

 Secondly I intend to venture into new pastures and create a whole bunch of innovative products for popular niche markets I didn’t even know existed.

If you would like to learn more about the little book that shattered my illusions on what I thought I knew a propos online marketing, visit the website featured in the resource box below.

Make Money With A Website Without Selling

Using a website to make money online has become one of the most popular ways nowadays. There are several ways you can make money with website:

a) Sell your own products and services.
b) Sell other people’s stuff (affiliate program).
c) Place Google ads on your website and earn whenever someone clicks a Google ad.

The first and second ways take a lot of time and require experience and knowledge of Internet marketing. The third option is much easier and quicker to make money online. To place Google ads on your website you need to first join Google AdSense program. You don’t need a professional look or fantastic site to sign up with Google AdSense program. A clean and simple site will be good enough.

The content of your website can be any topic as long as it does not violate Google policies. You can read more about Google policies at https://www.google.com/adsense/policies. You can write a topic or subject that is related to your experience, area of expertise, interest or background. If you are an expert at something you can make your content valuable and useful to others by providing advice and educational resources. If your interest and hobby are sport cars, you may introduce the latest models of sport cars and discuss some of the best tools for building the sports cars.

If you have no idea of what topic to write or have no interest at all in writing something, you still can own a money making AdSense site. Your solution is create a website solely to publish articles written by different authors. Just choose one topic or more and put several relevant articles for each topic and place your Google ads on each article page.

Build an AdSense site with minimum cost
Hiring a professional to build a site is expensive. Finding a freelancer to create a website will be much cheaper. However employing a freelancer is still not the most effective way to minimize your cost. The best way to minimize cost is use free website builder to create website. There are several free website builders allow users to build website without experience and technical knowledge. You can find these easy site builders by performing a search from the major search engines like Google and Yahoo. With site builder you can have a website or more absolutely free. You only pay for the domain name and website hosting.

Once you get your website launched. You’ll need to figure out how to drive visitors to your website. Your website will not generate income if no one visits your site. There are several ways to get targeted visitors/traffic to your site fast.

Pay-per-click (PPC) programs
Pay-per-click (PPC) programs allow you to bid for top-ranking positions on the keywords you have selected. When a visitor searches the keyword(s) you bid on and then click through to your site, you pay the amount you bid. The two most popular PPC programs are Google Adwords and Yahoo Search Marketing. However it is costly to advertise on this two PPC search engines and probably you will face the problem of your AdSense earning can’t cover the advertising cost. Fortunately, there are other alternatives such as Bidvertiser.com, Adbrite.com, Findology.com and so on. I recommend you advertise with Bidvertiser.com and Adbrite.com at the beginning as they are much cheaper to advertise with compare to Google Adwords and Yahoo Search Marketing. Bidvertiser.com and Adbrite.com are not search engine. When you sign up to advertise with them, they will distribute your contextual ads to the categories and websites within their network of your choice. You have no doubt will advertise on those categories and high traffic sites related to you website. You should also consider select those unrelated categories as well because these categories could send you targeted visitors and increase your AdSense revenue. Don’t set your bid too high. Just anyway from 6 cents to 9 cents should be good enough to drive hundreds of targeted visitors to your site within few days. As long as the daily AdSense earning greater than the daily advertising cost, you can continue your ad campaigns.

RSS advertising
RSS advertising is a free away to gain more exposure for your website. By creating an RSS file and submitting it to those RSS directories and search engines, the links to the content in your website will appear in front of those who read information using RSS readers or news aggregators and as a result driving targeted visitors to your website. Need more explanations? You can go to Google and enter the search term ‘make an RSS feed’. You will find detailed explanations of RSS and step-by step instructions on how to create an RSS file to increase your website traffic. Be patient, it will take you several days to learn and understand RSS. Some RSS sites also show an easy option to make RSS file without knowledge of HTML code by using free software tools.

Give away free content
Another free way to increase your website traffic is write articles and submit them to free content websites. Your articles can drive thousands of visitors to your site within weeks if your content is impressive.

There are other effective ways to increase traffic for your website. You can find a ton of free information and resources about website marketing and promotion from search engines. The more traffic you can drive to your website the higher your AdSense earning will be.

Forget Conventional Dream Interpretation: Learn to Cultivate Your Dreams Today!

free  Comments Off on Forget Conventional Dream Interpretation: Learn to Cultivate Your Dreams Today!

One of my favourite quotes of all time and I am sure many of you share my thoughts, is the speech by Martin Luther King at the civil rights march in Washington, 1963, which went like this:

“I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit together at the table of brotherhood…”

“I have a dream…” Indeed. Inspiring stuff. I want to discuss our dreams in a very practical way today.

I want to talk about how to cultivate your dreaming. It really is a tremendously valuable thing to do. I want to steer away from conventional dream interpretation and will explain why.

As of today, pay attention to your dreaming and your daydreaming. Dreams are important to us in many ways, because they do the following:

Firstly, when you dream you actively process information and feelings.

Secondly, dreams are always involving many senses, so the highly sensory experience is very rich. It is quite rare for us to use all our senses at once as we do when we dream.

Thirdly, dreams give us valuable information about what is going on in our lives, whether directly or more often in a disguised or symbolic form.

Fourthly, dreams are strongly sequenced, though often in a way which is emotionally rather than logically organised.

Finally, dreams draw upon a rich range of unconscious, associative, creative links between many kinds of information.

Some people remember their dreams; others tend to forget all but the most dramatic bits as soon as they wake. When you dream or daydream, take time to replay as much of it as you can in your mind before the events of the day overlay it. Relive the story of that dream. Remind yourself of the events, pictures, sensations and other sensory information it involved.

This dream was the product of your mind. Marvel at your own creativity! This is amazing stuff here; get excited by it.

If you get into the habit of asking yourself when you wake, “what did I dream?” you may at first only remember a few particularly strong feelings or vivid images: write them down and review it regularly. I actually used to write a dream journal and wrote everything down as soon as I opened my eyes each morning. It provided me with such inspiration when I required it.

Naturally, lots of you may want to start with dream interpretation straight away. Resist the urge for dream interpretation, ok?

Do your best not to assume that there is necessarily a single clear meaning which can be interpreted according to psychological theories or books on dream significance or dream interpretation. How can your dreams have the same meaning as someone else? Is your brain the same as that persons? For now, ease off the dream interpretation.

I have found that the most useful assumption to make about dreams is that they have some kind of significance for you, the dreamer: they come from your internal, unconscious mind’s storehouse of feelings, experiences and images, and are an active and useful way of processing that is quite different from – and just as useful as – the processing that belongs to the logical conscious part of your mind.

Often a strong feeling will be your first clue to the meaning a dream has for you: so note it, and wonder about it, but don’t try to rush to tie it down by conscious analysis. The real work of the dream is often done simply in the dreaming of it: the conscious mind does not always have to understand, and when it tries to translate dreams into its own terms it may be limiting it, just as poetry translated from another language usually loses something of its more subtle tapestry of meanings.

Think about the value of dreams.

Dreams demonstrate a different level of mental functioning from conscious, disciplined thought. When you pay attention to them, and even cultivate them, you are learning to become familiar with, to trust and to draw upon a fuller range of your own mental resources: in other words, you are using more of what you’ve got. Hey, this stuff is going to keep happening, so why not really use it.

The mind works both consciously and unconsciously. Conscious thought is formally taught in our education system. Its strength is its systematic and disciplined way of handling information. Its limitation is that it tends to be rule-bound and too narrow in its problem-solving approach.

The brain also processes information at an unconscious level: mostly, this is associative and depends on links, similarities and feelings. This processing produces dreams, as well as much of our other “creative” or “expressive” experience. That is why we are often surprised by the spontaneous connections we make or insights we have, and by our imaginative inspiration: it is not what we would have come up with consciously at all, yet it seems somehow completely “right”. This way of thinking works “laterally” – it expands, goes sideways and finds multiple avenues rather than just one.

We need both kinds of functioning if we are to make the most of our brain power. Logic and intuition, discipline and divergence, are all vital tools that enrich and enable us. But whereas we are used to working with the conscious mind, in part because we are aware of it and can monitor it as it works, many people are less at ease trusting and using the unconscious processes. Paying attention to your dreams, and deliberately cultivating daydreaming, are both ways of stretching yourself into this area.

So let us have a look at the value of deliberate daydreaming. Where dreams come unbidden, you may find it useful to deliberately evoke the conditions for daydreaming, if, like many people, you have not really valued the activity before now.

How is it valuable? Daydreaming brings us escape and relaxation; visions of the future that inspire and help us to bring about what we have dreamed of; solutions to apparently unsolvable problems; inventions and creative possibilities. Daydream states allow the unconscious, associative parts of the mind to work in their own playful and imaginative ways, bringing not only pleasure but results that our usual deliberate, attentive, rational thought does not. We need space in our lives for both ways of processing if we are to realise ourselves as fully as possible.

The key to daydreaming is to be in that right state. If you want to practice, please visit my website and download the free hypnosis session there, or learn self-hypnosis, read my book “The Secrets of Self-Hypnosis” or invest in the self-hypnosis masterclass audio programme, there is nothing else as good in the world today, really there isn’t. There is a kind of automatic abstractedness that goes along with daydreaming. Mostly it just seems to happen – but when you know about creating and changing states, you can choose to make it happen.

Here are some ways you can cultivate and work with your daydreams:

Firstly, notice when you have been daydreaming. Is there any pattern of circumstances that helps bring about your particular daydreaming state?

Some people find that repetitive, relatively automatic, activities such as jogging, ironing or walking create the right state. Perhaps it is a warm bath, swimming a few lengths, or sitting in the garden. Or it may be swaying to the movement of a train, staring into space, looking out of the window of a bus on the way to work, or going on a long drive.

Once you find what helps you daydream, use it and make space for it in your life on a regular basis, imagine that you are in that experience, recreate those circumstances inside of your mind. Let daydreaming come to you, and notice what kinds of windows it opens from our ordinary world into what other kinds of possibilities. Some of your best ideas and inspirations may come at these times.

Secondly, next time you have a decision to make, or a problem to solve, or a challenge to overcome, you can set up the circumstances so that you can trigger your daydreaming state – and allow yourself to explore your problem or decision in this way. When you have done so, make some notes of what you experienced and discovered. Add that to your conscious thinking on the subject: you now have much more information, and the advantage of having engaged more of your mental resources.

Thirdly, for today, forget dream interpretation. That is a conscious and limiting thing to do. Did I make myself clear? Forget conventional dream interpretation. For now use your dreams in personal ways to you.

Motivation is Consistency in Action

We all exercise for the results. Different people are looking for different results or outcomes. Goals vary from weight loss, athletic performance, endurance, strength, toning, body building to more flexibility, etc. Here are 10 tips for motivation and consistency to get results and achieve your goals.

Exercise with a Buddy. Try working out with a friend, spouse, or co-worker. It’s harder to skip a workout if you know someone is counting on you. The buddy system brings a social element to exercise which makes it more fun.

Set a New Goal. An initial goal sets a foundation in which future training goals are based. Setting a goal, such as entering a 5K race or rock climbing, may never have entered your mind. But after your initial goal is met, you will see new, interesting, and fun adventures in fitness you never thought possible.

Change Your Routine. Just a slight variation can take you to a new level in your workout. We use periodized training, a systemized approach involving progressive cycling of various aspects of training protocol, in 6 week intervals to avoid plateaus, boredom and for maximum effect. If you feel you are at a stand still, train three times a week for 3-4 weeks and experience the difference.

Treat Yourself to Variety. A heart-rate monitor, jump rope, Physioball, medicine ball, and other exercise equipment can help you work out more effectively and make your workouts more fun and challenging. Try adding a sport to your activities instead of always working out in the gym.

Try Something New. Personal trainers will challenge you with exercises you’ve never tried before. Training with different trainers also provides variety plus you learn from the experience of a team of trainers. If you always walk on a treadmill, try riding an exercise bike or an elliptical trainer. If you always lift with machines, try free weights instead.

Track Your Progress. Keep an exercise log. This will help you track your goals, monitor your progress and adjust your routine as necessary. Occasionally, test your maximum strength to determine your progress in total strength. By using a ten rep strength test, see how much weight you can bench press and leg press in ten reps. Use your first measurement of weight and reps as a benchmark and every three to four months, retest your strength.

Reward Yourself. When you reach a goal or milestone, treat yourself to something special – a massage, an evening out, new clothes or some other indulgence. Studies show rewards are a key to staying motivated.

Remember the Benefits. You know how good and healthy you feel after a workout? Make a mental note of that feeling. Use that memory to motivate yourself the next time you’re thinking of blowing off your workout.

Go Easy on Yourself. Stuff happens – doctor’s appointments, sick kids, illnesses. Don’t let a few missed workouts turn into a month of unfulfilled resolutions and move you further away from your goals.
Plan and be Ready to Exercise. Schedule your workouts like you schedule meetings and doctor appointments. Write your exercise time in your palm pilot or day planner. Pack you duffle bag with your gym clothes the night before you go to work or school. Or have an extra duffle bag in the car ready to go just in case you forget your gym clothes. Collecting Abundance In A Bucket

free  Comments Off on Collecting Abundance In A Bucket

“Everything comes to us that belongs to us if we create the capacity to receive it.” — Rabindranath Tagore

I listened to a recording recently of two men having a conversation about the nature of abundance. In their conversation, the dominant metaphor for abundance was water. They said that we are like fish swimming in the ocean, not recognizing that we are immersed in abundance all the time.

As metaphors go, this is an intriguing insight into the nature of abundance. I have no idea of the consciousness level of a fish, but I imagine that fish don’t analyze their surroundings much. They live in water, but have no consciousness that they are swimming in water. And this is the point of the metaphor. We live in an abundant world, but don’t see abundance because it is the medium of our lives.

But there is a missing piece to the metaphor. The missing piece turns scarcity into real abundance in our lives. The missing piece involves a bucket.

Instead of the thinking of yourself as a fish swimming in the ocean, think of yourself in a rainstorm. Rain is on my mind these days. I am writing this in the middle of a heavy rainstorm. The jet stream from Alaska has dipped down farther south than usual, bringing rain and rain and more rain. The San Francisco Bay Area just broke the record for the number of rainy days in March. So far in April, it has rained every day. Forecasters predict the rain will continue for the next two weeks.

And so with rain on my mind, I ask: How is it that you can live in an abundant universe and not increase your own abundance? The answer is simple. You aren’t holding out your bucket.

If you want to collect rain water, you don’t just stand in the stuff. You do something to collect the water. You take along a bucket. You set up a cistern. You use water tanks. You dig reservoirs. Otherwise, the water rolls off you as water rolls off a duck.

“The world is full of abundance and opportunity, but far too many people come to the fountain of life with a sieve instead of a tank car… a teaspoon instead of a steam shovel. They expect little and as a result they get little.” — Ben Sweetland

And this is what sets apart those who live in abundance and those who live with lack. Those who live in abundance do something to collect the water. They take a bucket with them. They build cisterns, water tanks, and reservoirs. Those who live with lack just stand in the rain and get wet.

“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” — Acts 20:35

In other words, the ones who live in abundance know how to receive. Those who live in lack don’t.

One of the real reasons so many of us struggle with lack in our lives is that we internalized the words, “It is more blessed to give than receive.” This Bible verse, taken out of context, sets up a value judgment: Giving is better than receiving.

I’m not going to do the critical work involved in telling you what the Greek words mean, or putting in these words in their biblical context. Let’s just look at the words themselves and ask what is wrong with this kind of universalizing statement.

“If you want greater prosperity in your life, start forming a vacuum to receive it.” — Catherine Ponder

Consider breathing. You breathe in and you breathe out. Somehow, we all got the idea that it is okay to receive when we breathe. What if you decide that it is better to breathe out than to breathe in? You can’t live very long before you realize that breathing is a cycle. If you want to continue to live, you need to receive air into your lungs as much as you need to breathe it out.

Even the rain itself is a cycle. The rain falls on Earth, runs into the creeks and rivers, flows back into the ocean, gets picked up into clouds and falls on Earth again. Breath and rain are part of life’s cycles of giving and receiving. But when it comes to Bible verses, this awareness of the cyclical nature of life often gets replaced by categories straight out of Greek philosophy.

The ancient Greeks, especially Aristotle, divided reality into opposing pairs, and then attached value judgments that one element of each pair was better than the other. So “reason is better is than emotion.” “Male is more human than female.” “A free man is a more moral being than a slave,” and on and on.

Christian theology picked up many of these same value-laden dichotomies, and imposed them on biblical statements and stories. As a result, many Christian people learned to think in dual categories, with value judgments attached. One example is that Christian theology has taken this one verse: “It more blessed to give than to receive,” and turned it into a one-sided rule for life.

From this simplistic notion, many of us learned that giving is better than receiving. The obvious question is: How can you give what you don’t have? And if you give all you have, how can you give any more? To give, you have to have something to give. And to have something you have to receive it first.

“Asking is the beginning of receiving. Make sure you don’t go to the ocean with a teaspoon. At least take a bucket so the kids won’t laugh at you.” — Jim Rohn

Giving and receiving together are part of the cycle called abundance. Abundance is a dance, involving give and take, back and forth, ebb and flow.

And so, if you are wondering how to create abundance in your life, claim the metaphor of rain as abundance. If you are standing in the rain, hold out your bucket.

Comparison Shopping on Your Cell Phone

How often do you find something at a store and wonder how much cheaper you could get it online? Now you don’t have to wonder–you can call 1-888-FRU-SHOP. That’s the number for Frucall, a first-of-its-kind price-comparison shopping service currently in Beta.

How Does Frucall Work?

Frucall is pretty simple to use despite all the technology behind it:

Call 1-888-FRU-SHOP from any phone in the US.
At the prompt, enter the product’s bar code number. That’s the number directly below the bar code. (Hint: don’t forget the first and last digits, which may be offset from the rest of the code.)
A computerized voice confirms the product’s name and states the price, as well as shipping information.

The whole process takes about ten seconds. There are no signups, no downloads, and funky add-on services or charges to your phone bill.

Beta Limitations

Frucall has been launched to the public in Beta mode, though it has already been tested for more than two months on an invitation-only basis. The Beta service works well, though there are still a few limitations:

During the initial Beta period, Frucall only searches Amazon. The designers, however, are planning on adding additional sites soon. They eventually expect it to become an internet-wide ecommerce price comparison service for cell phones.
Because the Beta only searches Amazon, you can’t use it for things that aren’t sold on Amazon. The Beta is most valuable when you’re out shopping for clothes, appliances, electronics, books, music, DVDs and stuff like that, but for now you cannot use it for grocery shopping.
You won’t be able to buy the product using your phone until this feature is implemented sometime in summer 2006.

First-Ever Voice-Activated Mobile Price Comparison Service

Mobile phone technologies are all the rage these days, from movies to games to weather reports to shopping. For the most part, these technologies have a dedicated core of people who tend to be very comfortable navigating all the options on the little screens and touch pads of their cell phones. Right now, mobile applications aren’t as appealing to people who are less nimble-fingered, less technologically savvy–or just less patient.

Frucall, however, might just be the first mobile application both you and your grandmother could use. The usability factor for Frucall is high since it’s all voice-activated, and, ultimately, that’s what cell phones were made for: talking, not running software.

Looking out for people who actually like mobile software, Frucall’s designers are working on a WAP (mobile application) version as well, which will be available in a couple of months.

In the meantime, Frucall’s voice-activated interface is a blessing for die-hard cheapskates: they can call the toll-free number from a payphone without even having to pay cellphone airtime.

In short, if you’re serious about saving money, you just got another tool in your toolbox.

IT Marketing: Improving Postcard Response

free  Comments Off on IT Marketing: Improving Postcard Response
Sep 102022

One of the biggest mistakes that I see when people are doing postcard mailings is there’s no urgency. What does that mean? That means that even if I’m interested in hiring you, there’s no compelling reason to do so now. I will just file your card away with my other computer related stuff.

Now if I got that postcard and it said this company is offering a free system analysis to the first 25 people that respond in the greater Anytown area, then I may have more reason to respond. They might say, “You know, our computers are really screwed up. This free system analysis, it says there’s no obligation, no purchase required or anything like that. I want to be one of the first 25. I’d better call them now.”

IT Marketing: Limit Your Response One Way or Another

If you don’t want to limit it to the number of people, limit it by date. The urgency and the scarcity can do absolute wonders. Talk to anyone who’s serious about direct mail or online marketing. Urgency and scarcity are extremely powerful motivators. If you want someone to take action with the response that you can measure, you must give them a deadline on your IT marketing materials.

IT Marketing: Learn from the Experts

If you want help with designing direct response marketing, you need to talk to a direct response marketing expert. In most cases, it’s going to be a copywriter or it’s going to be someone that’s retired from a big advertising company and specialized in direct response.

Just asking for general business advice from a business owner is not going to help you. The type of person that’s ideal for generating strong responses is someone that comes from a mail order background, direct mail background, does a lot of online advertising, or has worked for an advertising agency that’s done a lot of direct selling where there’s measured response.

The Bottom Line about IT Marketing

The key things are urgency, scarcity, deadlines, compelling headlines, compelling points of pain and something that motivates them to take action now.
