How to Know if Your Yard is the Tacky One on Your Street

We ve all seen it, we ve all pointed at it and we ve pretty much all lived beside it. The yard with tacky written all over it. What makes a house look like it is from What Not to Wear. Bottom line is it s you and your taste and love of dollar store trivialities. Or, it s your friends and family and your weak-willed nature that fills your front yard with the abominable, plastic doodads. Well, stop it! Trade your crooked, bent-over, gardener s spine for a straight sunflower backbone.

Here s how to tell if your yard is part of the tacky tourist tour in your city:

You have a ½ barrel spilling purple petunias (and the odd weed), surrounded by a medium-sized rock and a round dug-out area.

You have white, quartz pebbles in any part of your garden and especially beside the driveway in rectilinear rows of what resembles poodle-droppings.

You leave-up and plug-in your multicolored Christmas lights all year round.

You have a ceramic goose and you dress it up for all holidays including your dog s birthday.

You buy inflatables, of any variety…even at Christmas, they are not cool and if you have more than one be prepared for midnight pin-attacks…to watch it die slowly.

Too many colors in your planting arrangement. Red and yellow and pink and green, purple and orange and blue…I can see a rainbow, see a rainbow, see a rainbow too. Enough said.

Even worse then that??? Fake flowers. So, you have a black thumb or you re just lazy…let it go. Put some grass seed down instead. Fake flowers can melt in the sun, be covered with cat urine and they fade PDQ.

If you buy the following plants you are borderline (mind the pun) tacky: marigolds, petunias and begonias. These plants are wayyyy out of fashion (unless you grow marigolds in your herb gardens to put on salads). C mon, really, get with the times and accept change. Go wild, throw in the odd Japanese Anemone or ornamental grass or really go crazy and throw in a gigantic allium that is bigger than your kid s head.

Garden sculptures and garden ornaments are all about the usage. So, you like garden gnomes. Garden gnomes are great, but moderation is the key. Or, if you re overly excited about the seven-million dwarfs, at bare minimum, keep them against the perimeter fence and out of the direct view of your neighbors windows. If you have them on your front lawn, whistling while they work, and NONE go missing by the end of the season, you know a) that no one wants the monstrosities and b) there are no such things as dwarfs or gnomes that come to life at night (or fairies for that matter).

Plastic…anything plastic (not resin that looks like concrete) is a huge no, no! Think, would you put that in your house (well, you probably would if you have any of these yard and garden features listed)? If you wouldn t, than think about this…your neighbors get a first impression of the interior of your home, by looking at the exterior. Also, your garden should be an extension of your home, like a room of its own.

House Butterflies. Ok, they were cute in the late 70 s. You know what? No, they weren t even cute then. I bet some people have not bought a house that was up for sale because of the orange, metal monarch butterflies bolted to the side of the house instead of blissfully on their way to the mountains of Mexico.

A car on blocks looks, well, quite frankly abysmal.

Grass. Cut the stuff. If its soooo long you get bikini rash and wild animals come for dinner then you know it s too long.

Flags. One or two decorative flags are nice, provided you don t have any of the other stuff listed here, but more than that and oh my.

If you are reading this, chances are you have some style and pizzazz which follows through to a stylish garden. Therefore, there is that person on your street that has many of these items. My advice to you: walk by and note the number of the house, print off this article and mail it anonymously. Feel free to add your own notation about that one thing that drives you crazy…sit back and watch the bonfire.

Take The Clothes Off Your Rooms and Let Them Breathe

Its summertime and the livin is easy or at least you want it to free, easy and comfortable in the summer heat. We all want to lighten up and just breathe and move freely in the summer. You want to feel cool and comfortable from being bundled up all winter long. You can lighten the way you feel in your home at the same time by undressing your rooms. I love to decorate with quilts over tables and darker accessories during the fall and winter. Now that it is summer, I want to lighten my look by removing the dark quilt covers and leaving the wood of my tables bare. I take down the dark accessories and bring out the light pastels that are packed away. I feel like I can breathe easier when I do this and it is more fun when we aren t looking at the same old brick-a-brack every day and every season.

If you want to lighten the feeling in the bedroom, take the clothes off the bed and let it get comfortable too. Remove the comforter or heavy bedspread. Put light airy pastel soft bedding and sheets on the bed instead of the darker colors that have been there all winter. It s time for carnation pink, mint green, lemon yellow and peachy peach. I even take off the winter white creamy colors. I like white in the summertime for a bedroom when it is blinding bright white. The cool crisp feeling of white sheets against the skin in the summer is very refreshing and promotes a restful night. White goes with everything so bring it in and add your summer color wherever you want. When we re hot, we have a tendency to wear more white in the summer. Maybe we do that because white looks good when skin is tan, but why not just keep cooler with white in the bedroom. An all tonal white on white bedding suite is fabulous. It might be too stark in the winter, which is exactly why it s perfect for summer. Smell your way to breathing freer by bringing in fresh flowers from your cutting garden. Let the colors pop with your white bedroom. It is a stunning look and you have the added benefit of the fragrance of fresh flowers.

Change more than the bedding if you want to. Go all out and repaint the walls for added freshness. Put up new artwork and clean thoroughly to remove all of that winter dust that has collected from the heating system. Open the windows and let the sun shine brightly with the breeze blowing. Go through your closets and lighten everything there too. Wash all of the windows, curtains, dry clean the draperies and just remove the winter from the room. There is a reason we feel so good when rooms are clean and fresh. All of that dust that has collected not only gets in our lugs, but subconsciously; we know when things are light and fresh. We like that feeling of newness and renewal. Get rid of things that don t belong or that you know you won t wear. If you haven t worn an outfit in 2 years, you probably won t. Give it to the nearest charity or have a garage sale. When you lighten the load around you; you will feel better and more comfortable as well. Don t let those “things” that you don t need weigh you down. Breathe freely and move more comfortably around your house. We want to feel warm and cozy in the winter, but shed yourself of anything that is confining and let it go.

Don t hold on to things you don t need and lighten your surroundings with lighter colors and less stuff. You will feel free and comfortable all summer long.

Pool Table Lights Guide: How To Light Up Your Game

The proper pool table lights is critical to playing your best game of pool. The ideal pool table light fixture is attractive, unobtrusive, and provides just enough illumination without creating a glare. Choosing the right pool table lights for your home need not be difficult. Just keep a few points in mind.

The Best Pool Table Lights for the Job

The most effective pool table lights cover the entire length of the table. Measure your pool table before you start shopping. The majority of pool table lights fixtures available have multiple globes in order to direct several points of light at the table, usually two, three, or four globes. Multiple globes on your pool table lights fixture also help to eliminate any glare. Some fixtures contain multiple globes within one larger fixture.

Traditional vs. Contemporary Pool Table Lights

Pool table lights come in a wide variety of styles and finishes. Traditional, Victorian, Tiffany-style lights are popular pool table lights. These fixtures, modeled after designs by the famous glass artist, Louis Comfort Tiffany, are made of small panes of glass joined with lead piping. These colorful glass pieces are put together to form all manner of designs, logos, and slogans.

Tiffany-style pool table lights are available in one long shade with several bulbs inside the globe or in multiple shades along a single, metal bar. They may be elaborate, multi-color showpieces or relatively simple, one-color pool table lights fixtures.

Other traditional fixtures of pool table lights come in black or brown wrought-iron fixture with alabaster glass shades. Most often the pool table lights fixture is crafted into a scrolled design with multiple glass shades. This style of light fixture is also widely available in bronze, brushed pewter, and brass finishes. pool table lights made from ooden fixtures, too, can lend a warm and homey touch to your poolroom.

Contemporary pool table lights can give your room a clean, sleek, modern look. Bar pool table lights in chrome and brass with simple, smoked glass shades can create such a look. Some pool table light fixtures insert a vibrant touch by adding green, red, and blue colored glass shades.

Something a Little Different

Customize your pool table lights by adding a college or professional sports logo. Tiffany-style lights often incorporate the logo into the glass motif whereas solid glass shades can be etched with your favorite team s logo. Cheer on the “Fighting Irish” of Notre Dame, the Colorado “Avalanche” Hockey team, or the New England “Patriots” right from your recreation room.

Military logos are also popular designs for pool table lights. The Marine Corps, Navy, Army, and Air Force insignia are all available, both in Tiffany lights and in solid etched glass shades. Also consider “Jack Daniels” logo pool table lights or perhaps one with the “Harley Davidson” logo.

The Technical Stuff

Installing your pool table lights should be relatively easy for the weekend home remodeler. There must be a secure place onto which to mount your pool table light fixture and that it has its own separate electrical box. As with any electrical project, turn off the electrical current before you start working on mounting your pool table lights.

The correct light bulbs go a long way to ensuring your pool table lights fixture is safe as well as creating the right mood. 60-watt bulbs are recommended although some of the pool table lights with multiple shades might look better with 40-watt bulbs instead.

Where to Shop

The Internet has made shopping for pool table lights much easier. A typical search yields hundreds of online retailers of pool table lights. Browse through thousands of pool table lights, right in the privacy of your home. Many Web merchants even offer free shipping and live online customer service. Expect to pay from $150 for simple bar pool table lights to over $1000 for an elaborate Tiffany-style light fixture.

The right pool table lights can give your poolroom that ambiance of casual elegance or rustic charm that you desire as well as providing the lighting necessary to play your best game of pool. Shop carefully; consider all your options, and you ll enjoy your pool table lights fixture for many years to come.

Make Money Online With Affiliate Programs

If you have wanted to find a way to make money from home without all the hassle of selling products out of your own home yourself, perhaps you should take a look at affiliate programs.

Affiliate programs are an excellent way to make money from home. You can substitute sales pages, which are complicated to work with, with content and draw in more people to your website in the process. You do not have to make the actual sale.

How Can One Make Money Online With An Affiliate Program

It all starts with a web site. People crave content websites. Videos, articles and chat rooms are all different types of great content. Your job is to choose a theme and stick with it. Develop the articles or other content and people will come to it.

As said before, with affiliate programs making you money from your online website, you do not have to worry about putting sales pages that would appeal or trying to convince your visitors to go to a website. Your sole concentration is visitors, guests to your website means more people clicking on banner advertisements.

Once your website is running, with great content that people are coming to see, you can consider picking an affiliate program to run off your website to earn an income.

Connecting with Affiliate Programs that Make You Money Online

Once you ve developed your website, the next step is the affiliate programs.

But how do you choose an affiliate program that is right for you? Generally, you ll want affiliate programs that are in the same vein as your niche website. If you love pineapples and your website was all about pineapples, you wouldn t put a squash advertisement up, would you?

In addition, you also want to look at the affiliate programs to make sure you pick the best deals. If you wouldn t buy things from the website, why would your customers? Pick a company that you like, but stands a good chance of you making decent money.

Figuring Out Which Affiliate Program Works Best To Make You Money Online

You might try a few affiliate programs and wonder why you don t make any money with them. It s not an easy task trying to get to know what your readers want as far as advertising. Of course, all of them would say they wouldn t want advertising at all.

There are several things to look at when you are displaying your affiliate programs and picking the right ones for the right pages. You don t want 100 different affiliate programs. If you are looking to make serious money online with your affiliate program, you will need to pick just a small handful to make this work.

Set up your content pages and place your advertising around and below your pages. One or two adverts per page should be enough. If you bombard you visitors with ads, they ll go elsewhere for content.

Try picking affiliate programs that offer a free trial. These work well when you are first starting out as it concentrates your efforts into giving away free stuff. Free is easier to sell these days.

All in all, use your own best judgment. If something doesn t look to be making money, drop it and swap for a different. Try new things and see what works best.

You have a choice. Do you want to be constructive and positive in a unique way? Or do you want to be destructive and negative in a unique way? History has proven the futility of the latter goal. So let s focus on your unique capacity to better yourself and those around you.

In western music there are 12 notes per each octave on the keyboard. Only 12 notes. From these simple 12 notes come the various musical works of Mozart, Brahms, Rossini, Beethoven, Donizetti, Bach, Strauss, Wagner, Puccini, Verde, Gershwin, Gilbert & Sullivan, Rogers & Hammerstein. The Beetles, Merle Haggard, Marti Robbins, Louis Armstrong, Elvis, Aretha Franklin, Little Richard, Pointer Sisters and countless other unique performers, composers, and musical forms. What a variety from 12 basic notes!

As a growing copywriter and Cyberspace Marketeer, I often seek new ideas and ways of doing stuff.. But before this process can happen, I have to “pay my dues.” I do this through research over the Internet. I get out and socialize, during work time and play time. Only afterwards am I able to discover and lay out creative, unique solutions.

When I am given a set of parameters, I must intensely focus upon these, and then forget about them. Within a week a unique idea “pops” into my consciousness. Several weeks ago, I was consulting with a new client. He had “Hummingbirds” as part of his logo. He needed a slogan. He is in the restaurant trade. How can I tie the concept of “hummingbirds” in with food service? Over time we discovered “Every Bite – Hummingbird Light” Now he has a powerful slogan. We created a good headline featuring his current offering. We listed bulleted benefits (yes, a tiny hummingbird was used as each bullet). And a great slogan. His publicity pulls very well. He is unique in a positive way.

Logo. This is usually a unique graphic. Sometimes it can be a simple choice of font face, relative sizes, and placement. But a “killer” graphic logo is best. The logo reflects your whole, unique business philosophy and image. It has to be so crystal clear the public recognizes it instantly. The Colonel s bucket. The golden Arches. CocaCola Bottle. No words are needed. Never Copy. You may Modify. Create New is best. Focus on this task. Then let it go. You might “dream” the solution. Perfect your own unique logo.

Headline. Vital to keeping interest of your target market. Going further with the above “Hummingbirds” copy we told basically what it was, “Sunday Evening Roast.” Then, right below that line, we “painted a picture”
“Imagine yourself dining with your special someone on a secluded terrace. Your cozy wooden table and chair – your temporary sanctuary from a hard plastic world. Your candle gently flickers with each passing breeze. You are enjoying the intimate lightness of Hummingbirds unparalleled Sunday Roast.”
Needs a little fine tuning – but it works.

Bulleted Benefits. Continuing down
Sumptuous Starter-dishes
Mouth-Watering Main Course-dishes
Seductive Desert-Your choice
Free Glass of Red, Rosé, White
(Enjoy wines a step beyond – We taste and recommend)

Slogan (modified) follows.
“Your Traditional British Roast -
Every Bite – Hummingbird Light”

After that comes phone number, location, directions etc.

However, at the last minute we decided to add in this area.
“Twiggy” 2-Course (price)
“Henry VIII” 3-Course (price)

Our target market was the British couple or foursome looking for a great Sunday Evening Roast.

Over the years I have collected aids and studied various areas of marketing. Long ago I got copy of active verbs. Recently I got list of “Hypnotic Words” and successful headlines used over the years. Also a list how different colors effect emotions. These are all great references when I am stumped or want to make my copy even better. Some of the “greats” which come to mind are Claude Hopkins, Jay Abraham, Ted Nicholas. Actually, some of the best ideas can be found on current Internet sales letters. Occasionally I find the rare good headline in SPAM sent me. Yes, I even study some SPAM.

I have discovered my target market. They need my copywriting skills…the undercapitalized, open-minded, serious entrepreneur. Nobody in my immediate vicinity practices principles of good copywriting. I am unique. I am creative. My clients are unique. They seek creative solutions. They are fun to work with. Our creative ideas keep amplifying each other s.

No matter what profession(s) you are into at this time, develop your uniqueness, discover your creativity, dream your solutions. The more you practice, the easier it becomes. By the way, I had no idea what I would write about this month. I kept thinking and thinking. Then “pop” – here it is. Now to polish it up 24 hours from now. 828 words now and finally edited down to 794.

Perhaps you have tried all the ways you can think of to make some money online and you find out it isn t as easy as you thought. What could you do? Try these steps to make money online, quick and easy!

1. Try online surveys. These are easy to complete and while the money may seem low at first, eventually it adds up. I know there are some people making $100 s a month simply by filling out online surveys.

2. Take a look at some affiliate programs. Some will offer you a small amount for giving something away free! Tell all your friends to get the freebie and you get compensation in return.

3. Paid to read emails are popular. Try signing up for a few and get paid about five cents for each email you read.

4. Check out telecommute jobs! Maybe you can find one that pays the same as your current full time job. Imagine staying at home working and relaxing in your pajamas as you earn money!

5. Do you really need a cell phone? How about satellite television? Sometimes simply stop purchasing expensive items will really save you money in the end. It s easier not to spend something than it is to go out and spend money.

6. Sell any extra stuff you don t use anymore on eBay. Online auctions are a great way to earn extra money quickly.

7. Try affiliate marketing. Write a few articles and post them to a website and put affiliate advertising in the boarders of the web pages. Watch people come to your website for information and click on the advertising that earns you revenue.

8. Take time out to check out special offers. Some companies offer free products or even cash for signing up for special offers. Get a group of friends and rotate sign ups and you ll all earn oodles!

9. Set up an online store. Direct customers to your website and make money! Don t have any products to sell? Check out drop shipping companies that will make and ship your products for you.

10. When in doubt, check message boards and chat rooms for special offers and possible job openings. Look for telecommute or work at home jobs online through using Google or another search engine.

Pay special attention to this list. Easy money still means you will have to work to find it. Check message boards and other places for advice on how to make a quick couple of bucks.

Do remember not to give out any personal information or to sign up for business opportunity scams. Read articles on scams and how to avoid them and you should be able to stay safe from all of them. They may seem tempting at first, but most scams cost more money than you will ever earn.

The 4 Giant Lies You’ve Been Told About Internet Marketing!

free  Comments Off on The 4 Giant Lies You’ve Been Told About Internet Marketing!
Jan 022021

To quote Peter Finch from the iconic 1970’s film “Network”: I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!

There are so many lies, half-truths, and misguided misinformation out there about online marketing that it’s driving me crazy!

I just finished reading yet another ebook by yet another “successful” Internet marketing guru. It kills me because the only thing most of these gurus are successful at is selling themselves and their “snake oil” to unsuspecting business people.

They don’t know squat about marketing a business on the Internet. But they do know how to push buttons. So these self-proclaimed “experts” LIE to you just to sell you their latest crap… books, tapes, and seminars or whatever it is they think they can get people to buy.

(Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised is someone out there isn’t selling the “Color by Number Marketing Kit” that comes with its own crayons!)

These gurus make it sound sooooo easy to make money online. They say stuff like, “You don’t need a computer connection” or “You don’t need any experience,” or “You don’t need a lot of money.”

According to them, you don’t even need a brain! You just need to BUY THEIR PRODUCT and you’ll make a gazillion dollars online in 30 days… or less.

If you believe in that crap, you need to have your head examined!

I got news for you, Bucko. Marketing is work… and successful, bring-home-the-big-profits marketing is HARD work.

That’s because marketing isn’t a crapshoot or a game of chance. It’s a business. And just like any other LEGITIMATE business, you need to invest time, effort and energy to make it grow into a successful enterprise.

And it even takes even MORE ENERGY to maintain that growth and manage your success for the long term.

Now it’s definitely true that the “wonders” of technology make it easier to succeed with an online business than a retail store. And even a one-person operation can utilize email, autoresponders, and the Internet’s global marketing capabilities to grow rich.

But although it’s easier online, it’s still work.

I know it’s work because it’s the work I do! I am the mentor for the some of the most super-successful websites/internet business people on the planet. I’m the behind-the-scene the guy, helping “little” businesses that are generating $5,000.00 to $10,000.00 a month and “big” businesses with annual revenue figures of $1,000,000.00 and MORE.

There’s one thing they have in common: they all agree with me that it takes dedication, commitment, and hard work to reap the benefits of selling online.

Simply put: you get out what you put it. My clients aren’t at the top of their industries by just pure dumb luck. Their upwardly mobile climb takes ongoing dedication, forward-thinking, and careful planning. Their success demands creativity, persistence, specialized knowledge, a quality product or service… plus good old-fashioned, shoulder to the wheel and nose to the grindstone, hard work.

Of course, having a mentor helps, too!

So right now, I’m going to mentor you and tell you the facts behind the big lies told across the Internet by the gurus of “make believe,” not marketing.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Big Lie #1: You don’t need ANY money to get started.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

That’s just complete B.S. If you’re flat broke and one paycheck from homeless, you’re gonna have a very tough time making it. Of course you need money to get started. Whaddya think… your smile is gonna pay the rent?

Now you don’t need a lot of money to succeed online, it’s true… certainly less than it would take to build and open your own Widget Shop on Main Street. But you do need some operating capital… and it stands to reason that having a large bankroll couldn’t hurt.

When your pockets are fat and your budget can include more money for “smart” marketing, you’ll be able to see (and enjoy) the results of your efforts even faster.

In short, it takes money to make money.

It takes money to educate yourself… to research the marketplace… and to develop your product or service.

It takes money to get a domain name, it takes money to host your site. It takes cold-hard cash to hire a designer to program your site and a copywriter to write a killer sales letter for you. You even need money in order to get a merchant account so you can accept the money your website generates.

And most importantly, it takes money to DRIVE traffic to your site.

Yeah… I know… I know! There are all those “free” traffic-generating ideas that you can pursue. I do a lot of them myself… but I don’t trust my success to traffic I can’t control.

Most of the time, it costs me money to drive quality traffic to my site, and it will cost you, too. Could be Pay-Per-Click, could be running an ezine ad, could be doing some sort of offline promotion….

But the bottom line is — you need to have a bottom line. Especially in the beginning, your cash-flow will be in one direction: OUT.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Big Lie #2: You don’t need a list.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

This is almost as ridiculous as “you don’t need money.” Give me a break. Sales aren’t made to the man in the moon… they’re made to people on your list. People you have carefully cultivated and “primed.”

You need to build a list because your money is IN the list!

You need to build a “herd” as quickly as humanly possible… but don’t purchase one of those deals where you “GET A MILLION EMAILS ON ONE CD.” (That’s not a list — that’s spam-in-the-making.)

And don’t do the co-registration deal. With this approach, where people go to a site to subscribe to a particular newsletter that they want, they find a checkbox (or other response mechanism) “advertising” your offer. If they’re interested, they check the box to agree to receive mailings from you.

This sounds like a good way to get traffic because unlike spam, you’ve been given permission to make contact. The problem is these people don’t know you from squat. To them, the checkbox is just an invitation for another form of spam.

The online sales game — any successful sale, in fact — is about connecting with the right buyer and make the right offer. The right buyer comes from the right list.

The best approach to list-building is strictly OLD SCHOOL: build it from scratch. That way, your list people are “pre-qualified” from the start. They KNOW you right from the beginning. They want to hear from you. They want to learn more from you. They want to listen to what you have to say.

And with a list of people like that, it doesn’t take long before they’ll want to BUY from you

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Big Lie #3: You don’t need a product or service.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Crap. Crap. Crap.

Let’s try a little role-playing game. Pretend you and I were thinking about starting an offline business together. What if I said to you, “Oh, don’t worry… all we need to do to succeed is open our store. We don’t need any products or services. But we’ll still make oodles of money!”

You’d think I was crazy, right?

Well, then why in the world would you believe the same line of crap when it’s being fed to you on the Internet by some expert whose credentials can’t be verified?

Commerce is all about products and services and if you want to do business, you NEED a quality product or service to sell. Preferably multiple products and services so that you can back-end sell your existing customers and increase their value to you exponentially by turning them into customers for life.

Do I hear you asking, “Dan, what about those super-affiliates who are making a lot of money promoting other’s products and services?”

That’s a good question because yes, there are some exceptions to this rule. But the list of exceptions who do well with someone else’s product or service is very short. Plus there are a lot of potential risks to being the middleman.

For example, let me ask you this: what if that company you’re promoting products for go out of business? What if they change their products? Where does that leave you?

The answer: High and dry.

And I can’t even begin to tell you how many affiliate “horror stories” I’ve heard. It’s common to hear about vendors not paying affiliates on-time. Or to learn that customers may bypass the affiliate link, so you don’t get paid.

Vendors tracking software screws up, there are “technical difficulties” so you don’t get credited for the sale… and on, and on, and on.

And here’s a killer: more often than not, you don’t get to keep the customer, they do. Many affiliate programs are set up so that you only get credit for the first sale a consumer makes. After that, all the profits stay with the vendor.

They keep all the back-end profits.

And when they back-end sell their products and services, you don’t get a dime. It doesn’t matter that your links are making the vendor rich. The effort is yours, but the profit is theirs.

When it comes to my income… I’m a control freak! But affiliate programs are out of your control. Your financial well-being is in someone else’s hands… and there’s nothing you can do to manage your success.

You can’t test different things on your site because it’s NOT your site. You can’t change what’s not working because it’s not yours to change. All you can do is cross your fingers and hope for the best…

Hardly a recipe for success, I think you’ll agree.

I am not saying you can’t promote other peoples products, but very often you should do it as a back-end, not front-end. You front-end your own stuff, and you can back-end other products and services.

There’s still one more problem with promoting other people’s stuff: when you stop promoting, your income also stops. You have to constantly be on the lookout to find the NEXT red-hot product and constantly be inking the next great deal.

Big Lie #4: You don’t need any experience.

Of course, you need experience to succeed online! The only job in the world that doesn’t need experience is “virgin.”

If you want to make money, you need to get hip as quickly as humanly possible. You need to figure out what works, what doesn’t, and how you can use all the “tricks of the trade” to build your success.

That’s why having a mentor works. Working with someone who’s “been there and done that” can save you time and money.

Your income can only grow to the extent that you do. You must educate yourself… and you must be open to the process.

Be prepared to make mistakes, try new things, and push yourself beyond your safe, secure comfort level. Do whatever it takes to earn your Masters at the School of Hard Knocks. Learn your lessons and develop the skill sets you need to make the kind of money you want to make.

On this season’s The Apprentice, Donald Trump put two teams in a head-to-head competition: book smarts and street smarts. You don’t have to play for one team or another, you can take the best of both worlds for your success strategy.

It pays to be educated and street-wise. Knowledge comes from books… and experience.

Big Lie #5: You don’t need any technical knowledge
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

This really is more of a medium-sized lie. It’s definitely true that you can be a master online marketer even if you don’t programming, HTML codes… and all that stuff. (Hey, you can watch television without understanding how it works!)

However… while you don’t need to know the how-to, you DO need to know what needs to be done and what YOU need for your site. If you don’t, you’re as “at risk” for being had as a 17-year old car owner who visits the Bad Guys Auto shop.

I’m the first to admit that before I got smart, I was screwed-over and taken advantage of by several dishonest webmasters. They did a lot of unnecessary programming and sent me a hefty bill. They charged me a lot of money and gave me crap.

I definitely overpaid… but I didn’t know any better. But you can be damn sure I rectified that situation with a little “quick study.”

I found out for myself that it doesn’t hurt to have a little of technical knowledge. If you’re familiar with basic HTML — at least when you want make changes to your site, you can do so instantly.

There are many things that only a programming professional will be able to do for you. But it’s nice when you don’t have to go to your webmaster and pay them per hour for a fix that could easily be a do-it-yourselfer.

If you’re the “exception that proves the rule” and are making money hand-over-fist as a super-marketer, you may disagree that the four big lies are lies at all. Congratulations on your success… but take it from me.

For the average… even the above-average person… online marketing is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It’s a business and you have to treat it like a business. So if you’re not yet rolling in dough, but would like to be part of the Internet moneymaking machine…

Don’t buy into all the hype. Think it through. Use your common sense. Don’t try and get rich quick or you may find yourself in the poor house! BUT… you CAN and you WILL make money if you’re willing to do what it takes.

You can make money online with an Internet business by first focusing on what you need. Any online business needs a website, but what more do you need to start raking in the cash? For some people, it seems it s easy for them to make sales. What makes the difference? Follow these tips to find out.

What Your Internet Business Needs To Make Money Online

1. Start with your website. Links on the left, content in the middle, a banner at the top and that is it. Ads? Keep them to a minimum. Three per page at the most. Selling products? Make it easy to find your product pages.

2. You have a newsletter, right? Most business could use a newsletter of their own or make use of newsletters by paying for advertising on more popular newsletters. Don t know how to start a newsletter? Look up on your favorite search engine how to start an online newsletter.

3. Chat rooms are easy to set up, but can you bring people in to chat? People love a free chat room and more people in your chat room means more ad revenue for your internet business. What can you do to promote a web chat room? Find other who do this and learn from them.

4. Offer something for free. It may seem like you are being too nice, but a freebie gives the customer a chance to try out your stuff. Perhaps you could offer something for signing up for your free newsletter. This way, you both get something, they get the freebie, and you get another subscriber.

5. Do you really need a message board? An empty message board will make people think no one cares for your website. Unless you can get a group of friends to come in every day and chat, there might not be any interest. Don t put one up unless you can do this!

6. Your website needs content. Provide your Internet business with content and you will increase the money you make online. You not only provide articles for your visitors to read while they are there, articles also go a long way to help you with your search engine rankings.

7. Your website should have meta tags available. These meta tags are code embedded into your HTML code of your website that tells search engine spiders what your page is about. It matches your meta tags with your content to see if they match. Do you have different meta tags for each page? You should.

8. Take a step back and look at your Internet business, are you really making money online like you wish? Do you wish you were doing something else? Sometimes looking at your business from a different angle will put things into prospective.

9. Take care to write your thoughts on your business and what you will provide your customers. Will you go the extra mile? Will you be happy to chat with them, even if it s 2am? Tell them this!

10. A good privacy policy will do wonders for those weary about giving away their email address and other information. Make sure the link is posted on every page.

11. Maybe you are interested in a telecommute job where you can work from home using the internet. There are plenty of jobs out there for anyone that might want them.

In conclusion, making money online is not such a difficult thing if you follow the eleven steps that above. Follow your passion and work hard at it and you will do fine.
