Who do you call when things go wrong?

I’m not much of a DIY guy. And this is odd because both my father and my brother are. And this has presented me with a problem.

You see my brother now lives in New Zealand and my father now 3 hours drive away. This means either: things don’t get done, I have to learn some DIY or I have to get someone in.

Honestly, I really don’t like any of the options. But then a few weeks ago my partner, bless her, said, ‘Since your dream home’s a farm, don’t you think you’ll need some DIY skills for all those extra jobs on that big property?’

Of course she’s right. On a bigger property there is bound to be more DIY to do. And it was then next that I sliced through an electric cable in the garden. And a little later that I got the the electric hedge cutter lead trapped. When I pulled it free a wire came lose from the casing.

That day that I received an offer from best-selling author. In this offer he talks about the school of life. And it didn’t take me long to work this situation out. The universe was sending me two messages. One spiritual (being cut off from the power source – I’ve not been meditating due to too many meetings and tight deadlines), one physical, the need to get connected to being the person I need to be so the universe can effortlessly bring forth the things I most want to come about.

It was on a scorching afternoon when I pulled myself together and headed around to my neighbour, a former farmer and a dab-hand at DIY.

In the shade of his house, we chatted away for several hours. Listening to him talk about his experience as a farmer, as a landlord and about some of his experiences of DIY. And by the time I left him, I not only felt more connected, but had learnt how to reconnect the wires so they could carry the power.

The Dali Lama was once asked. ‘How long he meditated for each day. His reply was about four hours. He was then asked how often he meditated on busy days and his reply was a shock. ‘Twice as much.’

Staying connected to the Source or power supply is important. You can do this by meditating, or you could go for a walk in the countryside, play full out with your kids or make love to your partner. It doesn’t matter which you choose. They are all spiritual experiences that can reconnect you.

No matter how persuasive, compelling or brilliant you may be, it’s difficult to build a relationship with a prospect if you can’t get them to call you back.

Most sales people use boring, outdated voice and email methods, which leave them sounding just like every other sales person in the world. If you want to get more return calls from your clients, then you have to do something different from everyone else out there – you have to stand out, be likeable, and actively deserve a return call.

Here are 12 of the best ideas we’ve found to help you stand up, stand out and make your clients want to return your calls:

1. The fine line between persistence and stalking.
I rarely ever give up. That being said, I don’t call my prospects twice a day, either.

The trick is to call consistently, and if you leave a message, tell the customer precisely when you will call them back – and then stick to it. I usually say something like: “If I don’t hear from you by March 15th, I’ll call you back on the 16th.” I get return calls more often, because my prospects know that I will be calling them if they don’t get in touch with me.

Most experts agree that it takes at least 4 attempts to reach your prospect. Realistically, I find that number can be closer to 8. But some of my best customers today are those who I was initially the most patient with, and to whom I made multiple calls over a period of weeks, or even months.

2. Let them off the hook.
In a voice or email, it’s a great idea to tell a prospect that’s its OK for them to say no.

Say something like: “If you’ve chosen to go with a different product, that’s okay. Just let me know so I don’t become a follow-up pest.” The vast majority of the time, one of two things will happen – they’ll either call you back and say, yes, we’ve chosen someone else, or they’ll say no, we haven’t made a decision yet, and apologize for not getting back to you sooner.

Either way, you’re ahead of the game because now you know the truth about what’s going on.

3. Send a handwritten note.
Sending a handwritten note after your first sales call or presentation will dramatically increase your chances of getting a return call. Why? Because a handwritten note increases your likeability, helps make the prospect feel good about you and encourages them to take your calls.

I never cease to be amazed at the number of emails I receive from clients and prospects thanking me for my handwritten notes. Obviously, they have an effect on people that yet another voice or email doesn’t.

4. Put them on auto-drip.
If you’ve tried everything you can think of and still can’t seem to get through, but you aren’t quite ready to give up entirely, put the prospect on auto-drip, and send them something interesting and of value (not simply advertisements) every month or quarter. This will help to keep you top of mind for when the time is right for them to make a decision, or go looking for a supplier. 5. Ask if they’re okay.
This is an excellent idea from Engage client Michael Freer, who uses it in both voice and email to drum up a response from clients who have unexpectedly gone silent:

Dear Bob;

On the XXth of June, I sent you an email asking for… and as I haven’t heard from you, I can only assume one of the following:

1) You’re now not interested and I’m reduced to the status of an annoying piece of spam clogging up your email; or

2) You desperately want to contact me, but you’re trapped under a fallen filing cabinet and can’t reach your phone or PC.

Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.

This very simple approach works because it’s different and fun. We tried it, and received almost immediate responses from previously silent contacts, many of whom started off by apologizing, saying that they’ve been buried in work and then going into great detail about why they were still interested. The ones who don’t respond are either on a really long vacation, or really aren’t interested, so it isn’t worth wasting any more time on them anyway.

On a happy note, we never did get any responses from prospects who were indeed trapped under their filing cabinets, saving us the difficulty and expense of organizing a costly rescue mission!

6. Create a deadline.
After every conversation, you should gain agreement from the prospect as to next steps, and the date they will be accomplished. That way, when the time for the follow-up call comes around and the prospect doesn’t show up, you can leave a message like: “I’m calling because the last time we spoke, we agreed to chat today about….”

Reminding them of your agreement will help move them to call you back. If they don’t return your call in a couple of days, keep calling, and gently remind them of your mutual agreement.

7. Keep track of who hasn’t answered.
Document each call or email in your CRM, so you can remember when you last spoke with, left a message for or sent an email to a client. You can then bring up those dates in a subsequent message, such as: “When we last emailed on Feb 1st, we agreed that I would…”

8. Separate the facts from your imagination.
Try to find out what’s really going on, rather than what you simply think or assume is happening. The following 3-step voice mail strategy works because it increases your chances of getting a return call, and it always gets you to the truth:

VOICE MAIL #1: “Mr. X, this is John Doe from ABC Company. Paul Smith suggested I call you because… Sorry I missed you today, but I’ll try to reach you again on DATE and TIME.”

Make sure your tone is soft, non-threatening and friendly. You don’t want to sound like a radio ad for a furniture liquidator. Plus, it’s critical that you do call back on the date and time that you say.

VOICE MAIL #2: “Hi Mr. X, this is John Doe from ABC Company calling because I promised to reach you today at TIME. Sorry I missed you. Paul Smith suggested I call you because… I’ll try you again on DATE and TIME.”

Again, it’s critical that you call back exactly when you said you would. Anything else would result in your being less than honest, and risk losing your contact’s confidence.

VOICE MAIL #3: “Hi Mr. X, this is John Doe at ABC Company calling, because I promised to reach you today at TIME. Sorry I missed you. I notice that you’ve been difficult to reach and I’m wondering if that’s because you’re swamped at work, you aren’t interested in doing business with my company or I’ve been wrong at guessing the times you might be at your desk. Any of these is okay, but if you wouldn’t mind letting me know how to proceed, that would be great. I promised Paul Smith I would be in touch with you, and that I would get back to him about our conversation. My number is 613 730-7700, extension 111.”

The last reason for not reaching the prospect – that you’ve been wrong at guessing the times he or she might be at his or her desk – is important because it lets you take ownership of the reason you can’t reach the customer. You can change the other two reasons based on your specific sales situation – for example, if this was a follow-up call after sending a proposal, you might say: “I’m wondering if that’s because you didn’t have a chance to see the proposal, you were unhappy with the pricing I sent or I’ve been wrong at guessing the times you might be at your desk.”

9. Call early or late in the day.
One of the ways I follow up with senior-level decision makers is to call either quite early in the morning (say around 7:30am) or late in the day (after 5pm), without leaving a message if I don’t get a person. I’ve found that, by calling at these times, the decision makers are often alone in the office without a gatekeeper, and therefore more likely to pick up calls themselves.

10. Change your media.
If a prospect hasn’t responded to an email you sent within 5 business days, call to ask them if they received it. Likewise, if they haven’t responded to a phone call, send them an email.

Everyone has their own preferred way to communicate. Your job is to find out which communication tool is easier for the prospect. One Engage client specifically tells customers on her voice mail messages that she’ll be sending them an email as well in case that is better for them, and in her emails, she lets them know that she’ll be calling in case that works better. This not only increases your chances of reaching the prospect, but also shows them that you’re putting their interests first.

11. Prepare for the “Final Approach.”
Whether in voice or email, when you’re ready to permanently write an uncommunicative prospect off, let the customer know that this will be the final attempt you’ll be making to reach them. Try something like:

“I notice that it’s been X weeks since we last spoke, and I’m assuming that’s because you are no longer interested in our product. That’s OK, I understand that we are not a fit for everyone. The last thing I want is to become a follow-up pest! If you’re still interested, you can reach me at 111-1111. If I don’t hear from you, then I’ll assume that you are moving ahead in a different direction, and I won’t call again to interrupt. I wish you all the best on your project, and thank you for considering us.”

12. Have some fun – and take a risk!
Engage customer Greg Higgins uses this approach with great results:

“Hi Bob, this is Greg from ABC Corporation. I’m beginning to feel that we have a love-hate relationship with your answering machine – I love to leave messages, you hate to return them. Maybe we can talk soon. Thanks.”

Yes, it’s sassy. But Greg reports that 99% of the time he uses this, he gets a call back. And of course, he only uses this approach on the most desperate cases.

First, I want to make sure that there is no confusion with the title of the article. When I say “building muscle fast”, fast is relative in comparison to the rate at which you will build muscle if the muscle-building factors I am going to discuss are not in place. The fact is building new muscle is NOT a fast process. It takes weeks, months, and years of hard work and dedication, both inside and outside of the weight room. This slow “rate of return” on muscle-building is one of the main reasons people give up on building muscle all together.

We live in a society where if we want something we want it RIGHT NOW. Well, a lean muscular body just cannot be obtained that quickly. Building your ultimate physique is like an ongoing art project that takes years and years to complete. However, the time and effort required is far outweighed by the masterpieces we are able to create.

So, even though it is going to take some time to build your masterpiece, adhere to these four essential ingredients for muscle growth so that you can get the job done in the most effective and efficient manner as a natural bodybuilder.

1) Train heavy and with as much intensity as possible

If you want to build the most amount of muscle in the least amount of time then stick to the basics and train heavy! We have all seen the guy in the gym loading up the machines until they simply cannot hold anymore weight. He goes through his workout routine swinging the weights around like a madman using terrible form and way too much momentum. Just about everyone stares and some of the faint of heart even leave the weight-room in fear. This guy obviously either 1) has no idea what he his doing or 2) has an ego that is farther ahead in development than his muscles. But you know what? I’ll bet you a box of meal replacements that the guy is carrying around some pretty decent muscle.

Even though his form is very poor, lifting all that weight forces overload upon his muscles and overload is the single most important factor in stimulating muscle growth in the weight room. Now, before you go out and try to do one arm curls with the 100 lbs dumbbells (unless you are Skip LaCour who really can do this), let me make it clear that I am NOT advocating that you train like our friend I described above. The point is that even with less than perfect form, lifting heavy weight with intensity will produce muscle overload and muscle growth. Your goal should be to train heavy while using proper execution and allowing for some momentum. The best muscle building exercises to train heavy are the basics, such as squats, dead lifts, barbell bench presses, and barbell curls.

The best training program I have found that enables you to continue to make gains by overloading the muscles is the Max-OT or Maximum Overload Training Program, created by Paul Delia, President of AST Sports Science. Max-OT is centered around basic compound exercises using heavy weight and progressive overload. The workouts are relatively short (30-45 minutes) which is why INTENSITY is very important. These short intense workouts build muscle in a more efficient manner compared to longer workouts and also eliminate the concern for decreased testosterone and increased cortisol levels that can occur with longer workouts. 2) Feed your body to grow all day long

Alright, we have stimulated our muscles to grow in the most effective and efficient manner with heavy weight training. However, that is only half the battle. No, actually that is only like 20% of the battle. At least 80% of your success in an attempt to build muscle is based on how well you feed your body the 23 hours that you are not in the gym. Science has proven it, I have seen it in myself, I have seen it in my clients, and anyone else who has made the commitment to make nutrition a priority has seen it as well. Once you begin to practice proper nutritional habits on a consistent basis the results from your workouts will improve by leaps and bounds. The key word here is consistency. You can’t eat right for a couple of days then have a day where you miss two meals and eat junk food for a few others. You must eat properly on a consistent basis to really obtain the powerful benefits that proper nutrition has to offer.

There are many different nutrition plans that can help you build muscle and I am not going to go into the details of any specific plan. However, I will give some general guidelines for eating to build muscle.

• Include a source of lean protein with each meal

High quality protein provides your muscles with the proper nutrients to build muscle. Examples include chicken, turkey, egg whites, lean beef, tuna, and meal replacements, such as Ny-Tro Pro 40.

• Eat enough calories to put your body in a positive nitrogen balance

A positive nitrogen balance is needed in order to build muscle. This is obtained by consuming enough high quality protein (at least 1 gram per pound of body weight) and enough carbohydrates so that the protein you consume goes towards building muscle and does not get converted to glucose for energy. Just because you need a lot of nutrients to build muscle does not mean that you must eat massive amounts of food. Eating high fat low nutrient food just because you are “bulking” will do nothing for building muscle and everything for making any definition you have disappear quickly!

• Limit saturated fat but include some “good” fat in your diet

Diets low in saturated fats protect against many problems such as heart disease and high cholesterol. However, if your total fat intake is too low then testosterone levels will decrease and your body will become less efficient at performing many mandatory functions. You need a certain level of “good” fats containing Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. Examples of foods containing these “good fats” include flax seeds and flax seed oil, olive oil, canola oil, and CLA, or Conjugated Linoleic Acid.

• Eat frequent smaller meals throughout the day

Eating small, frequent meals throughout the day ensures that your muscles are constantly supplied with the proper nutrients they need in order to grow. Breaking up your normal 3 meals per day into 6-8 smaller meals per day is the one nutritional strategy that will have the biggest impact on the amount of muscle you are able to build. Eating this way also increases your metabolic rate helping you to stay leaner, keeps blood insulin levels stable, and increases energy levels throughout the day.

• Drink lots of pure water throughout the day

Our bodies are made up of 1/3 water and our muscles are 70% water! Water plays a vital role in proper hydration, transport of nutrients through the body, digestion, the flushing of toxins from the body, and other important functions of the body. All of these things help equal more efficient muscle growth.

3) Get plenty of rest between workouts

New muscle tissue is not formed from weight training unless proper nutrients are provided to the body as discussed above AND enough recovery time occurs before the muscle is placed under the stress of an intense workout again. In addition to the recovery time between workouts your body needs sleep to allow your muscles as well as all of your other body functions to operate properly.

How much sleep is enough and what is the optimal time to wait before working the same body part? There are many different opinions and theories on both of these subjects, and the “right” answer can be debated all day long. I would say that the “right” amount of sleep each night is however much sleep it takes for you to have enough energy to train intensely and stay awake and alert to perform all of your daily tasks. As far as the optimal time to wait before training the same body part again, this is going to vary based on a number of factors including how long you have been training, how many sets and reps your performed during your last workout, and how intensely you trained during your last workout, just to name a few.

Personally, I have found that I perform and feel my best by getting 7-8 hours of sleep a night. I also have gotten very good results by training each body part once a week very intensely as prescribed in the Max-OT program.

4) Live a healthy lifestyle and provide the right environment for muscle growth

If you are really serious about building muscle then you must structure your lifestyle in a certain manner. This is not always easy because so many of the normal activities in society involve things that can sabotage your muscle-building efforts. With office parties, lunches, and dinners, family cookouts, happy hour, etc. it can be difficult to stay on your bodybuilding diet plan. Eating un-healthy foods and drinking with your friends are enjoyable activities but they will not help your muscle-building efforts.

Sure, its tough to pass on these activities, but everything worth having in life has a “price tag” on it and the “price” for having a lean muscular body is to train when you are supposed to train, eat when and what you are supposed to eat, and rest when you are supposed to rest. It would be great if we could work out when we felt like it, try to eat pretty good most of the time, go out drinking on the weekends, and still build muscle and stay lean, but life just doesn’t work that way.

The good news is that you don’t have to become a boring hermit who never does anything fun. Go out and do things with your friends. As long as you train, eat, and rest like you are supposed to there is no problem. It helps to find people who have similar interest and healthy goals like you do. Instead of having others trying to tempt you to stray from your workout or nutrition plan, you will be able to encourage each other and help each other succeed.

Conclusion:

Follow the rules above with consistency and dedication and you will build muscle. Even if you just build 4 lbs of solid muscle a year, which is very reasonable, after 10 years of training that is 40 LBS and after 15 years that is 60 LBS! It won’t happen overnight, but if you are patient enough and persistent enough you can build your own masterpiece physique. Train hard, eat right, rest, and reap the benefits of not only more muscle but a healthy life as well.

The kitchen is often neglected even though it is often cleaned and warning signs of excess moisture and impending water damage are overlooked. Inspecting the following moisture sources will help in preventing damage where it is likely to happen. The following guide lines will help you keep your kitchen in good condition and to prevent damages caused by the refrigerator, the dishwasher and the dink and countertop.

Be thorough while performing these inspections and remember to do them every few months


Refrigerator

The area behind the refrigerator is hardly ever inspected because it is relatively hard to reach. Inspecting this area will reduce the chance for water problems. water behind the refrigerator is a sign. Do not ignore it, fix immediately or hire an appliance technician. If you detect mold growth, clean it immediately. Locate the moisture and fix it. If you have an icemaker, check the hose to make sure it is sealed and attached to the water supply.

Sink and Countertop

The sink and countertop are highly watered areas in the house. Check regularly under the sink and remove the trash can and other stored items to search for leaks. A drip in the trap under the sink means drain problems and must be repaired fast. Look around the sink, slow draining pipes indicate a blocked drain. A dripping faucet must me repaired promptly. Pay attention to the countertop. If tiles are cracked or grout is missing, fix it to prevent water from pervading. Stained walls and floors around pipes indicate an internal leak that must be fixed to prevent additional damage.

Dishwasher

If the dishwasher doesn’t empty after use, the main filter may be blocked and must be released promptly. When the sink overflows, it is usually due to back-ups. This problem usually occurs when the drain line is clogged. Clean the drain line regularly. Look under the base of the dishwasher for leaks. If you find any leaks, there could be an unsealed joint or a damaged hose. Check the connection and fix as needed. Check the dishwasher hose under the sink for signs of leakage and fix if necessary. Consider installing steel-braided hoses on appliances such as the dishwasher.

As we go about our day, most of us are not aware of an ultimate unity, a connectedness with God and other human beings. Instead, we’re preoccupied with our own plans and designs, our own hopes and fears. But if we are free of psychic clutter as a result of a deep confession, the ferreting out and release of unexamined or unconscious material in our psyche, and take a moment to get still, with nothing going on, we come to realize our connection with all humanity. We can see that there is no essential difference between us and our fellow human beings. We are all irrefutably a part of God, and love flows between us and other human beings as freely as blood flows in our veins. We then discover our “true”selves, the selves with neither body nor consciousness, the selves that exist as beginess, the selves we seldom stop to notice. Missing that experience in our daily lives is, however, merely a consequence of being human.

Not only does becoming clutter-free through confession lead to personal transformation, it can also lead to transformation on a global level. We have all seen or know about major shifts in public awareness, such as the Civil Rights Movement in the United States or the formation of the United Nations, both with enormous ramifications. If you are familiar with the controversial principle of social change known as the Hundredth Monkey, in which it is purported that when one person knows something, that something is the property of that one individual, but when that something is passed forward to a critical mass of other individuals, then it becomes the property of the larger society. In his book, The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell documents how a seemingly innocuous and often counterintuitive action can cause a social behavior, trend or idea to tip and “spread like wildfire.” Nevertheless, new concepts do enter the common language in only a decade or two, and wholesale changes to society do take place, such as the lowering of the crime rate in New York by cleaning up graffiti in the suburbs and stopping fare-beaters in the subways.

As each one of us confesses, we make way for the next person, until we reach that point of critical mass. For Christians, that point might even bring about the Second Coming. God Calling, (Russell, Jove Books) the writings of two anonymous women who in 1932 came together looking for a closer connection to God, speaks to that possibility. Reportedly, one woman heard the voice of Jesus Christ, and the other recorded what the first one communicated hearing. She reported Jesus as saying


I do not delay my second coming. My followers delay it.
If each lived for Me, by Me, in Me, allowing Me to live in him, to use him to express the Divine through him, as I expressed it when on earth, then long ago the world would have been drawn to Me, and I should have come to claim them as My own (November 5).



Those of us who are Christians may be moved by the above to confess the error of leaning on our own understanding[s], [Pr. 3] followed by a re-commitment of ourselves to Christ, trusting what is widely called a “vertical relationship” that is, a “one on one relationship with him,” living in him and allowing the divine energy to flow through us to the outside world – just allowing his energy to flow, without having to force anything, or to compel anyone to receive it. For in the Gospel of John, we find: “Then true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” [John 4] Today, we might interpret “in spirit and in truth” as “in oneness with a confessing heart.”

This is a lot easier than having to bear a hefty bill of the medical care costs. The plus points of going for regular routine check ups will avoid you going for a sudden expensive treatment. You are regularly examined and thus you can avert any major health happening and stay fit and healthy.

Are there other options?
If you are savvy enough with your money you could save money and get tax deductions. Health savings account or HAS allows you to put back monthly a small amount into a dedicated bank account for health services. To avail this plan you must be covered by a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). The money you save on the premiums (in case you take another plan) could be put into the health saving account (tax free) and you could also get the High Deductible health plan as insurance against unforeseen eventualities. This money saved is thus combined with an insurance plan to maximize benefits.

Travel insurance and Group Health Insurance are options that you can choose because this is the most likely scenarios when accidents happen. When you travel or when a group is going on vacation or camps. This is in case your cover by medical insurance is too less.
