As you look around at your fellow human beings, you will find it hard to ignore the fact that very few people are happy, fulfilled and leading purposely lives.

Most of them seem unable to cope with their problems and the circumstances of daily living. The majority, settling for the average, have resigned themselves to “JUST GETTING BY.”

Resignation to mediocrity has become a way of LIFE.

This is just part of what I read, but that is some scary stuff.

Sad but true, why is that people are giving up on themselves too quick.

Man as I look at my son, it makes me realize that kids are SUPER SUCCESSFUL, they always have it their way. Why is that when we grow up, stop fighting for our dreams, our willingness to succeed fades away as time goes passing by.

Don’t let that happen, it kills me inside seeing so many people setting themselves up for failure, giving up, quitting too soon. MAN!! WHY??

You know, as much I love freelancing, it can suck you in like a real job without even realizing it. What I mean is that you get programmed to work and work and work and take everything too seriously when you always have the option to take a little time off with no reprocussions. I might be a little philosophical here but the whole point of working independantly is for peace of mind.


Peace of mind means taking a bit of time here or there to smell the roses (I’d use a better analogy but it’s late). It’s a shame, too. I just realized it the other today for the umpteenth time.


By luck, I had a “down” day yesterday. By down I mean that I could not really do my work since the internet went out in my office (aka home). Now, if your a hard working freelancer, this would be very discouraging news especially if you had correct a few pages on a website or upload the newly revised code to the server (yes, I work over the internet). After all, a day of not working is a day without pay, right?


Well, I obviously did what I could and called tech support, bla bla bla, the internet would not be fixed until the next day. That left me with a weekday with no real work to do. I don’t know why I wasn’t excited like I was when I had free day from work or school or whenever. I had to do something, nonetheless. Off I went to end the mystery.


It was a sunny day so I went out in the city, walked around and had a beer with a friend I bumped into by chance and at eleven in the morning. After a few pints, I went to get some ice cream. Then candy. Then went to play in an arcade where I haven’t been in, oh, five years. OK, this isn’t going into some drunk tale or weird occurrence but just illustrates that, hey, I should do this kind of stuff on a weekday all the time.


For some reason, the majority of us are programmed to work our tail off, or as much as we can do in a week to be successful in whatever career we are in. Unfortunately this leaves us in a very routine lifestyle dominated by this desire to be the super success. This desire also is not enough to keep working day to day and week to week completely motivated to do so. You may say that’s what weekends are for but what do you really do anyway? Rest?


Sure, rest feels good, but I can’t remember a single memorable weekend where I had an incredible rest doing and nothing but sleeping and watching TV. Aren’t the vacations when the vacationing and real rest happen… and how often are those?


Let’s just say that the day I had doing things I did when I was a kid (not the drinking beer,… [ahem]) suddenly reenergized me much the way a weeklong vacation would. Specifically, the internet outage allowed me to stop, break my “super success” routine and actually enjoy this time off.

It’s really not that hard to increase your Internet speed. I’m going to make it real simple for you and you do not need to be a computer geek to make this work.

The first thing you need to remember is to never, and I mean absolutely never download programs especially free software without reading the fine print! Most free computer software will bombard your computer with spy ware and other terrible stuff which will eventually bring your Internet speed and computer to a screeching halt! If your PC is already infected with spyware you can download the leading spyware remover called ad-aware which will scan your personal computer and remove spy ware and cookies that track your net surfing habits .

Step 2 and another way of making your PC and Internet connection faster is by following this crucial step: Click on start, then click run and type the words msconfig in the run drop menu. Next go to the start tab and remove any program except your antivirus software and any other program which you must have run when windows starts. Be careful not to remove any program which is necessary for windows to start and work properly. If your not sure about a program then google it and you will find plenty of sites that may help you figure out if the program you want to remove is important or not. This tip will increase your computer start up time dramatically!

Step number 3, and I do this almost on a daily basis is to clean up your Internet cache. Follow these steps:

Go to your control panel which you can access from your start button and click on Internet options. Go to temporary Internet files and clear your history. I would recommend that you also set Internet history to a maximum of 2 days. Next step is to delete your temporary Internet files including offline content. Last but not least is to delete cookies. Be careful though because deleting your cookies will also delete useful information from your computer. You can read a how to on cookies here: www.howstuffworks.com/cookie.htm.

These steps are the basics you can take which will speed up your Internet connection immediately. I would also recommend doing a virus check on your computer on a weekly basis. If you don’t have anti virus software, get it! You’ll be happy you did. Just one virus can wreak havoc on your computer! Make sure you test your connection speed whether its broadband or dial-up, before and after you make these simple changes so you can compare if the corrections you have taken have worked.
