Whatever Happened To – “The American Dream”

free  Comments Off on Whatever Happened To – “The American Dream”

Do you ever wonder what happened to the average citizen’s ability to achieve The American Dream? Is there something about the pursuit of THE AMERICAN DREAM that contributes to failing systems and institutions (from an Enron economy to failing education, the deterioration of the family unit, social ills such as senseless violence, suicide, substance abuse and perversion)? Geela thinks so. In her highly praised book THE AMERICAN DREAM, Geela explains the connection between our failing systems and institutions and the pursuit of The American Dream as we know it. Through her proven “Principles For Successful Living,” and her innovative nonprofit organization, ONE SPIRIT, ONE WORLD, Geela revolutionizes the conventional wisdom of achieving personal success and prosperity.

A recent study reveals that the overwhelming majority of Americans are now experiencing more stress and less true fulfillment and optimism then ever before. They believe that the odds of them winning the lottery are probably much better than their odds of attaining The American Dream. And the current climate of global terrorism coupled with growing uncertainty and failing systems and institutions only makes their faith in attaining The American Dream for success, happiness and fulfillment seems less likely. The American Dream is becoming more and more like the Impossible Dream.

When one looks at the evolution of the concept of The American Dream, it’s hard not to notice the sharp contrast of “before and after” or “this was then, this is now.”

The concept of The American Dream was basically originated from suffering periods of lack, following the Great Depression and WW2 when people had appreciation for work because it was scarce. The main concern was security and basic survival. As such, the focus of The American Dream was on wholesome values such as a strong work ethic, integrity, family, community and moral values. It created joy of life, pride in work and family and a sense of community. In sharp contrast, The American Dream is no longer attainable by most people. How many people can afford a home considering the ridiculously high prices? And decent jobs with stable companies are increasingly becoming a thing of the past. Sure, we have accumulated lots of stuff (toys), but they only bring us artificial joy, which is as fleeting as it is cruel.

It was hard work, integrity and wholesome moral values that provided the solid foundation for creating prosperity and economic boom in this country. It was prosperity with integrity and purpose that brought us a sense of real joy and pride coupled with a strong sense of community. However, success has its own trappings, and with success came the desire to “keep up with the Jones’s.” Need eventually turned into greed. The new generation wanted more, in fact they demanded a higher standard of living almost at all costs, even if it meant getting into serious debt. Life was no longer about family and community but instead was more about status (through money and power, with the obsession with fame and fortune for the wrong reasons). And thus began the pursuit of materialism with all the side effects associated with it.

And when need turns to greed, the results are inevitable. The same spirit that created capitalism and prosperity has also created corruption, compromised integrity and the erosion of wholesome values systems that eventually has led to failing systems and institutions.

In a materialistic driven society, where the love of power and money overcomes the power of love, anything becomes fair game. The system, including the media only perpetuated this concept of the newly evolved American Dream for self-serving reasons (to make more profits), while turning us from a nation of producers to a nation of insatiable consumers that made us forget our spiritual roots. Thus, human excellence has given way to human weakness while enslaving us to our own addictions and desires.

In fact, we hear so much about the Enron type of corruptions and dirty politics fueled by special-interest money, that it has virtually become an accepted practice.

The prevailing mentality in American society today is that you can get something for nothing. There is a sense of entitlement and an expectation of wanting the good life without having to work hard for it. This is reinforced, glorified and perpetuated by the media with shows like “The Lifestyle of The Rich and Famous.” When all you see is glamour, but not the hard work and sacrifice that goes into achieving success, it only inspires more envy and the desire for a “get rich quick” scheme leading to the erosion of morality and integrity.

Consider the break down of the family system. When both parents spend long working hours (sometimes just to make ends meet), their children are left alone, being raised by their peers, gangs and TV. Family values and compromised integrity simply don’t run parallel. By failing to instill good values in their children, children have become corrupted by default, increasingly turning to violence, which in turn negatively affects not only our way of life, but our economy as well. . Once again, the culprit is the pursuit of materialism.

Now consider the increased senseless violence at our schools and unchecked crime on our streets. Both can be traced to the pursuit of materialism, which drives people to corruption, compromised integrity and the erosion of wholesome values systems. Violence is a reflection of being away from family and community, an anti-social behavior and a lack of a sense of belonging. After all, how can children feel safe and truly cared for when they are left alone without any clear boundaries? Crime too, is a reflection of the growing frustration and anger resulting from the perception of lack of opportunity, and the equal sharing of prosperity. Call it like it is – it’s a class warfare between the haves and have-nots.

Here is a quick quiz for you:

* Do you know your neighbors? How about just their names?
* When was the last time you invited your neighbor to dinner?
* Why do you build a fence around your home?
* Have you noticed that the more possessions we have, the more we try to isolate ourselves with an attempt to protect our hard-won assets?

As tough as it is for our national pride to admit it, one can’t ignore the failing of our educational system as evidenced by failing test scores. This too is basically a reflection of the erosion of our moral values, work ethic and our failing institutions. Many politicians are driven by doing what is politically correct and getting elected rather than what’s in the best interest of the community. As the United States falls further behind the world in education, the negative impact on our economy will be felt too. Once we were the world’s leading producers of goods. But now our higher standard of living has escalated wages to the point where manufactures are taking jobs overseas (to places like China and India where cost of living is very low). As a result we are importing more and more of the goods necessary to maintain our excessive lifestyle. As a result, the foreign trade deficit has ballooned to an all-time high. Our addiction to consumption has forced us to go into debt to the rest of the world. The huge budget deficit we hear so much about is really a deficit in integrity. Our only edge in the world economy has been in technology and innovation. But in the absence of good education, we will lose this competitive edge too. And if we wish to maintain our high standard of living, we must produce something of value in order to remain a valuable player in the global economy.

But the break down is not limited to our systems and institutions alone. Our nerves and spirits are just as affected. With growing personal and national debt (with no way out short of a miracle or winning the lottery), out of control violence and crime, environmental and spiritual pollution, extreme stress, frustration, hopelessness, rejection over lack of opportunities, lack of accomplishments, or control of their own lives, send more and more Americans straight to a shrink’s office, take Prozac or worse, get hooked on drugs and other destructive substances as a way of coping. Many simply have reached their breaking point resulting in a diminished productivity at work, a diminished family harmony and enjoyment of life itself.

People are not as free as they would like to believe. The reality is that, knowingly or unknowingly, people are controlled, by virtue of being in debt and by being enslaved by the pursuit of materialism (a by-product of the pursuit of The American Dream as we know it). Perhaps it’s time to reflect on what really matters in life and ask ourselves the eternal question. “Are working to live or living to work?”

Many feel this country has seen its finest hour unless we develop a new attitude. In the words of a fellow immigrant, Arnold Swartznager, “no more business as usual.” It is a luxury we simply can’t afford. As an immigrant, who came from a different culture and a different values system and achieved The American Dream, not only do I appreciate the great opportunities and freedoms this great country has to offer, but I am able to see the sharp contrast and the cause and effect that contribute to the social and economic ills of our society. Indeed, social ills are an equal opportunity employer. But it is precisely because I care so deeply about this country, that I make my observations and offer innovative solutions in order to preserve the greatness of this country for future generations.

Finally, here is the burning question. How can one be happy and successful and still get a piece of The American Dream? How can we restore our failing systems and institutions and preserve a free and thriving society? What needs to happen is to restore a wholesome values system with integrity. We need to restore the true spirit of The American Dream which was based on perspiration, innovation, risk and reward. That’s when we can once again appreciate simple pleasures and discover that it is “He with the most joys lives,” and not “He with the most toys lives.” And perhaps only when the power of love overcomes the love of power can we finally get back on the yellow brick road to real prosperity, real peace and real fulfillment. Indeed, the best things in life are free, and all you have to do is recognize it.

Latex Allergy and Positive Living

Learning to Live Positively with a Latex Allergy

Your child has a latex allergy: Perhaps a mild allergy; perhaps a life-
threatening one. Either way, you now have to help your child live with it. Of
course, to do so, you need to be able to live with it. You’ve done all the
research. You know to avoid balloons and bananas. You’ve latex-proofed
your house. Have you grieved?

While it might seem selfish, knowing that your child can never go near
latex, is the death of a dream for you-the dream of your child living a safe,
problem-free life. You have the right to grieve for his or her loss. Grieve
over the fact that your child can never blithely go to a birthday party
because balloons are integral parts of that experience.

So what should you do after you finish grieving over your child’s latex
allergies? That one is simple. Get mad.

“It won’t do any good,” you say. No, it won’t change your children’s latex
allergies, but you’ll probably feel better once you’re done being angry. Just
like grieving, this should only last a few days. Go ahead and be mad that
your child is “different”. Rant in private that it’s not fair that your child has to
worry about things other children don’t. Maybe throw a few (soft) things
because you’re upset that you have to explain over and over and OVER to
people that latex allergies are real and deadly, and because you’re tired of
repeating the list of foods your child must avoid in addition to rubber bands.

When you’ve allowed yourself to go through the mad stage, it’s time for
acceptance. It should be a bit easier now to accept that your life will be as
fully affected as your child’s life. Now you and your family can learn to help
your child cope with this life-altering allergy.

How do you deal with the fact that your child isn’t invited to a fast food
restaurant for a birthday party because all the kids will be in the ball pen-
the balls are rubber, and your child can’t participate. Explaining to your
child that he or she is being left out for their own safety is heartbreaking for
both of you.

Children with latex allergies react to the changes and limitations in their
lives in different ways. Some just accept it and move on. Others may accept
it while they are young, then lash out at the world when they are older and
more fully comprehend their limits. If your child struggles with the
emotional pain caused by their allergy, you may need to guide them
through the stages of grief, anger and acceptance. Children will often stuff
their frustrations deep inside because they are trying to be “good”, so you
may have to talk with your child and give him or her permission to express
sadness or anger at the difficulty this allergy brings with it.

A great way to help a child with latex allergies cope is to involve them in
protecting themselves and other children with the same problem. You’re
probably becoming a bit of an activist already, possibly fighting a school
board to make sure that your child’s class (and preferably the entire school)
is latex-free, or asking toy shops to have lists of latex-free toys on hand. Let
your child get involved too. Bring them along when you go before the
school board and let them speak about their own need for safety and how
latex affects them. Involving your child helps them feel like they are taking
back some of the control over their life that their allergy took away.

When your child stands up for him or herself, they are standing up for every
child suffering latex allergies, or anything else that makes them different.
Speaking out about their problem not only helps your child cope, but
makes a positive contribution to the community. And with as fast as latex
allergies are growing, especially among adults in the healthcare field,
awareness of the problem needs to increase quickly.

It seems like an uphill battle to educate other people about the danger of
latex allergies. There will always be another parent to explain things to,
another toy shop to educate, another battle to fight. But the effort is far from
useless. You and your child will connect with people. You will both make a
difference, because even tiny victories help make the world a safer place.
Most importantly, you are teaching your child to be pro-active and not let
their allergy rule their heart and soul.

Latex allergies will create daily wear and tear on you and your loved ones.
It’s important to make sure you don’t let yourself get run down. Take care of
yourself so you can withstand the coming years of helping your child
maneuver through the dangers of a latex-filled world.

Reach out to others in a similar situation. Perhaps you won’t find anyone
else locally who is dealing with latex allergies, but they are on the rise, as
are wheat and peanut allergies. Why not band together and pool your
energy as well as your resources? Talking to others who have been there
and done that will help both you and your child. If for no other reason, when
they say that they understand they truly do.

Finally, though being pro-active in spreading the word about latex allergies
and encouraging change to a safer environment is good, don’t let your life
or your child’s life become consumed by their allergy. It’s very important to
spend time doing things and discussing subjects that have nothing to do
with latex. Planning activities that are safe may take a bit of advance work,
but it will be worth it when your child is able to completely relax and just be
a kid like everyone else.

A new marketing course to hit the internet by Nick Marks that advertises earnings of $1000 a day and $30,000 a month respectively. This turnkey system generating multiple streams of income is relatively new and so it is my pleasure to review it for you.

After purchasing you are given a login page where you are introduced to the system which is in website format. Everything is easy to access and well organized.

After Nick gives you a little pep talk about positive thinking and goal setting, you will be introduced to his first recommendation: join Coastal Vacations. While not a part of his main Forex system this is a recommendation I could’ve done without.

In the pay per click section you are given a large list of keywords that Nick found convert really well with his system. Some of the keywords in the list have bid prices already attached to them so you can get front page exposure.

The course also has $50 in free adwords credit that unfortunately only works with new accounts so I was out of luck. If you don’t already have an account this is worth the price of the course alone.

The forex course shows you some inexpensive traffic methods and provides links to these sources. He also covers stuff like pop-over ads, e-mail lists and autoresponders. Not bad information by any means, and is an alternative to pay per click advertising if you have a smaller budget.

He has an ebook package that seemed like it was going to be really cool as there were dozens of bonus ebooks and software programs covering everything from creating ebooks and website templates, to getting top positions in the major search engines.

As I took a closer look at this package I realized there were some bargain bin informational products included. However, there were also alot of goodies in there as well that I found rather useful. You get so many ebooks and software in here that it really is worth far more than the price of the course.

There is a section on becoming an Ebay power seller in 90 days that goes into a fair amount of detail and wasn’t bad. However, Ebay isn’t something I have ever been particularly interested in doing. There is also a section on baccarat strategies that I had no interest in.

One of the last sections of his course introduces you to e-currency exchanging using the DXINONE system. It is a great way to acquaint yourself with this increasingly popular opportunity without having to buy standalone e-currency courses which can cost a couple hundred dollars.

The author has combined several effective ways to earn money online and rolled them all into one course. While I didn’t jump up and down about all of his strategies, the free ebooks, software, and adwords credit make Forex Enterprise worth the money.

Changing Beliefs of TV’s Celebrity Big Brother Contestants

free  Comments Off on Changing Beliefs of TV’s Celebrity Big Brother Contestants
Sep 112020

Ok, ok, so I admit it, I have watched one or two episodes of celebrity big brother on the TV here in the UK in past couple of weeks. I am not a reality game show fanatic, however, I find it fascinating.

One thing that I have found fascinating is how different people react to others just because of what they believed before they entered the house rather than treating individuals on the basis of how they have experienced them first hand.

There is a young musician from a fabulous band in the Big Brother house called Preston and he voted for a lady called Faria to be evicted from the house simply because of the fact that she is famous for a kiss and tell story with England football coach Sven Goran Erickson. The first evictee, Jodie Marsh, was also cold and unpleasant to Faria on the first night for the very same reasons and expressed that to Dennis Rodman in the house. Neither of them judged Faria on how they found her or on their own personal experience of her.

Jodie and Preston both openly stated beliefs that they thought she was not a “proper celebrity” (whatever that is) because of how she was famous and Jodie Marsh actually said, when she was evicted from the house last week, that she thought Faria was lovely!! Amazing stuff. When she got to know her beyond what she originally believed, she discovered something that was liberating and kind instead of to the contrary.

Your beliefs are pretty much the rules of your life, well at least they are the rules that you will no doubt be living by. These rules may be what sets you free to achieve things in your life and live the way that you think is important. These beliefs may well also be restricting you and holding you back; they may even be creating the belief that you are incapable of achieving your goals. Or as in the case of contestants from Celebrity Big Brother, stop you from being agreeable to someone!

I wonder how many of you are already losing sight of your New Year goals or resolutions? Your beliefs may well be affecting your degree of success.

I believe in gravity and am guessing that you all believe in it too. Gravity is not influenced or altered in any way, shape or form by my belief in it. However, our relationships, abilities and possibilities are all influenced by our beliefs about them.

We tend to form our beliefs as the result of our experiences and then we act as if they are true. In one sense they are self-fulfilling propphecies. If you believe you are a likeable person, you will act that way, approach people openly and enjoy being with them. They will warm to you and so confirm your belief. We think that beliefs are formed by experiences, but equally experiences are the results of beliefs.

So this then means that you can choose your beliefs!

Understand that the belief that beliefs are changeable is in itself a challenging belief to many people because they tend to think of beliefs as possessions. People talk about ‘holding’ and ‘having’ beliefs, ‘losing’ or ‘gaining’ them. No one wants to ‘lose’ something. It would be better talking about them ‘leaving’ or ‘outgrowing’ beliefs rather than ‘losing’ them.

What’s more, we all have a personal investment in our own beliefs. When the world confirms them, then they make a lot of sense to us, they are then predictable and give us a sense of security and certainty. We even may take a perverse pleasure in disaster, providing we have predicted it; how many of you have used the term ‘I told you so’ and found it to be a satisfying phrase? Not because you necessarily wanted anything to go wrong, but because your beliefs were proved correct.

Limiting beliefs are the major offender stopping us from achieving our goals and living our dreams. They act as rules that stop us from getting what exists within us as potential and we all have so much potential that we do not tap into nearly enough. Limiting beliefs hold us back from achieiving what we are actually capable of and what we deserve.

So have a good think about this question; “What is stopping you from achieving your goal?” and know that the answers are very often your limiting beliefs.

Early limiting beliefs may come from childhood influences such as parents or teachers or people whose beliefs we deemed worthy of believing ourselves. These early beliefs often stay hidden and we do not consciously evaluate them as adults. We also pick up limiting beliefs from the media. The numerous soap operas that take up so many hours of TV time set up situations where the characters have to act out ridiculous limitations, otherwise there simply is no drama to compulsively view!

Here are some typical limiting beliefs that are amazingly common;

“No pain – no gain.”
“I need to have lots of money to be happy.”
“I can’t trust anybody.”
“You can’t get over a bad start in life.”
“I am too old to learn to use a computer.”
“I never get what I am after.”
“Other people are better than me.”
“I do not deserve to be successful.”
“I have reached my limits.”
“I need to work very hard to have enough money to live.”
“Success takes a very long time.”

These and similar beliefs are only true if you act as if they are. Suppose they are mistaken? what difference would that make?

In the process of achieving your goals, sometimes just being able to articulate any existing limiting beliefs and in turn noticing their effect is enough to alter or dissolve your old unwanted belief and therefore change and update your own reality.

It has certainly been my experience that the majority of people are not usually aware of their limiting beliefs. So the first step is to put them into language or to write them down. Then they are exposed and can be examined and ideally let go of. There are two simple ways to do this:

The first way is to simply ask yourself what the reasons are that you are not currently achieving your goal. What do you think is holding you back? Ask yourself that question and answer as truthfully and thoroughly as you can. The answers will reveal what it is that you perceive to be limitations. More often than not, these limits will be more about you than about the world. When they are about you, they are something that can be changed or updated.

Now, I have found that when people do ask themselves these questions in their own mind, they are rarely honest with themselves, so here is another approach that I use a lot with my one to one clients to discover what, if any, limiting beliefs you have;

Step one: Take a piece of paper and write down an important goal. Have a good look at that goal and really think about it.

Step two: As you think about that goal, assess and score each of the following statements;

Score each of these statements by giving it a score out of 10. Where 1 means you do not believe this statement and 10 means that you believe it without a doubt at all.

I deserve to achieve my goal.

I have the skills and abilities necessary to achieve this goal.

It is possible to achieve my goal.

My goal is clear and defined.

My goal is desirable to me.

My goal is worthwhile.

Look at the lowest scores for any of your answers and begin to explore them. This can be wonderfully enlightening. Low scores highlight and indicate a limiting belief or that you have not thought about the goal sufficiently. If you have discovered some doubts in some areas of your goals, now begin to ask your self about the reasons you are doubtful or what could be making you doubt this?

When you begin to question and examine your beliefs you can unearth what might be limiting beliefs and then you can begin to heighten your awareness of whether or not your beliefs are preventing you from achieving your goals.

Mistakes when using Macromedia Flash

free  Comments Off on Mistakes when using Macromedia Flash
Sep 102020

I have used Macromedia Flash for all the wrong reasons in the past and i would like to take some time to warn you, so you don’t have to make the same mistakes i have. Quite some time ago now i used to recommend using full Macromedia Flash websites to my clients all the time, and what’s worst i did a good job in talking them into it, autch….. Sorry for that if you were an old client of mine i hope you can forgive me. But on the other side at least i know better now, i learned from my mistakes and i won’t ever make those mistakes again.

The main reason i thought that Flash was the best thing ever had to do with with the fact i got involved in the online Flash community. There i saw how you could gain great status by knowing this program very well. Also being able to create those interesting things you can with Flash just by using some Actionscript was amazing to me. I wanted to become a part of the web design world and entered it from a Flash angle. I was learning Flash Actionscript all the time, day in day out, never thinking any further like about the importance of things like SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and making actual money from a website. Instead i dreamed of creating those full Flash sites jammed with animations etc, thinking that would be the greatest thing ever, the marketing side really didn’t even come to my mind at that time. Flash Actionscript and the Flash community was my world and you could say i was blinded by my love bigtime. I think a lot of Actionscript users out there are still as i was, blinded by that love.

So after having learned lots of actionscript to a level a was sure about my skills i started to receive assignments to create certain websites. In my blindness my answer to everything was something like: ‘Use Macromedia Flash and you will get a beautiful custom website with smooth transitions and effects that will impress your audience so much they will keep on coming back and you might win some awards with it.’ As you can see i was far gone and on the border of insanity, i had my head way up in the clouds and could only see it from my side ( the blind love for Flash / Actionscript). I couldn’t see it from the client side of things and that’s more related to marketing a website and how to get relevant traffic to it to make some actual money from it.
I am so glad those days are long gone and i have seen the light regarding to when and how i should use Flash. Nowadays my personal preference is how i setup free-webmaster-resource.com, a CSS, PHP, MySql and Macromedia Flash combination (unless the assignment is more of presentation like and need lots of animation, sound and video). I used Flash a little bit in this website, only in the header, and even then there isn’t anything moving etc, just a rollover. It just does not add to the site if i start to make all sorts of moving stuff in my header. With a setup like this i can also apply SEO (search engine optimization) techniques to reach a bigger and free search engine audience which results in a higher advertisement income. So my personal favorite is the cross-over website and not the full Flash website when it some to your average website thats not like a presentation.

So when shouldn’t i use Macromedia Flash?
1)You should not use Macromedia Flash in your web design if it does not add something to your website! I mean if it does not add something to the overall user experience then just don’t add it to your site. To give an example, it does not matter to an average user (that must provide your income!) how good you can use Actionscript. So please don’t try to show off your skills by coding that creepy mouse follower or those blinky thingies all over your website. Things like that don’t add to a website at all, they rather tear it down. A professional will notice things like that immediately and recognize you as an amateur (not that being an amateur is bad, not at all, but this tutorial is for people aiming a bit higher and that seek to become more then an amateur). Users are king and Queen and we as web designers and developers should serve them well, this is especially difficult if you see how much little animations one could create with Actionscript, the possibilities are endless. By not showing your visitors all those unnecessary effects you show them that you are thinking about how they experience your website. And secondly your content will be much more clearly visible and thats what its all about. I know its tempting to setup those little effects when you first start to use Flash and especially Actionscript, but just don’t do it, you will loose income and traffic from this 100% most definitely sure.

2)Another mistake in using Flash is if normal HTML could easily do what you are trying to accomplish. I made those mistakes often when starting out with Flash. An example is that some people create a full Flash site with lets say, a title, some text and a menu to a few static pages. When you click a button in the menu you are taken to the other page without any transitions, no cool flow, just bam and the next page is visible. Its quite useless to use Flash in such a manner because one would use Flash to create an interesting flow with some great transitions, not for static things like that. In HTML there are no things like transitions between pages, its purpose is just to serve a user data without any motion and such stuff. Making a page that acts like a HTML page does with Flash is not good at all, it screams inexperience, and you might want to avoid that.

3)When you have a website that contains a lot of data don’t try to use a full Flash site unless you have enough money to setup a pay per click campaign to attract visitors . A website needs to generate income and that’s it. Using Full Flash for big data sites will effectively hide all your hard earned content from the search engine spiders, so you don’t get the free highly targeted search engine traffic. If you decide to use that full Flash site you just have no way to effectively apply SEO (search engine optimization) and thus you are missing a very big audience that uses the search engines. Only by setting up PPC campaigns you can make up for that but it can cost a lot of money. Another thing to consider is that using Flash itself causes some extra overhead, this is because instead of getting the data with PHP from a MySql database and displaying it, you also need to send it to Flash in a correct way and handle it from there. If you have loads of data this could give some extra delay in the loading time of the website.

4)If you want to generate money from your website with some banners or ads, don’t use a full Flash website. You won’t be able to easily setup affiliate links, banners or other type of ads like you would normally.

So when should i use Macromedia Flash?

When you need to use video, audio or animation like e.g. in a presentation or cd-rom, then Flash is the best tool out there. Especially Macromedia Flash 8 has some awesome options regarding to video. Or if you want to create powerful applications driven by a database like MySql and a server side language like PHP , then Flash is your ultimate tool. Because with those types of creations (applications, presentations and cdroms) don’t require you to get targeted audience from search engines. So the whole search engine trouble with Flash doesn’t count. Also if you want to have a small effect like in my own header here http://www.free-webmaster-resource.com Flash can provide that easily!

Conclusion?

Macromedia Flash is an ultimate tool to use but you should not fall too deep in love with it. Take a step back and think about the things like: do i need lots of visitors from the search engines for free or do i have enough money for a pay per click campaign, do i want to setup affiliate links or other types of banners to generate an income, do i really need animation or can i leave it out and just serve my user what he/she came for etc… I hope you won’t make the same mistake of wanting to use Flash for everything like i did and that you will explore the possibilities of creating websites that search engines like and your users like too. (For example a CSS, PHP, MySql and perhaps some Flash). Ofcourse this only applies if you don’t need to have things like video, audio and animations to create that ultimate user experience. Just remember one thing and that is: you don’t have to showoff your skills with all sorts of effects nobody needs/wants to see!

buy from you with no hassles and next day shipping. That’s
great! Now where are your customers?

Driving traffic to your website is a much discussed and much
misunderstood venture. There are a million theories out there
that claim to drive tons of new visitors to your site daily.
There are services that say they will increase your traffic by an
enormous percentage if you will only pay them their small fee
over a period of fifty years. There are so-called experts who
will place your pages on all the best search engines on the net.
They claim that with this kind of blanket exposure, your traffic
numbers will explode within days.

But the only sure-fire way to draw productive traffic to your
website is through targeted marketing. The important word to
notice here is “productive.” You can draw hundreds of thousands
of visitors to your site every year by hosting a giveaway of some
kind. Services that search the internet for freebies will have
people clicking a link to your site like crazy. But these people
are not there to buy anything from you … quite the opposite.
They are empty clicks. There is nothing productive about this
kind of traffic. People looking for free stuff will rarely make
you any kind of money. And that’s what you’re after, right?

So target your marketing to the people who really want to buy
what you have to offer. How? Start by trying these basic
steps…

* Hire an experienced copywriter. The copy that is on your site
makes a world of difference in the sales you garner from the
internet. Most important to targeted marketing are the keywords
found in your title and the metatags in the website’s code. An
experienced copywriter will know how to determine the most
effective keywords and place them strategically in your site’s
copy. If you cannot afford a copywriter, do some research and
talk to your web designer about inserting metatags.

* You can enroll in pay per click search engines. Obviously,
google.com is one of these, but most of the most popular keywords
are already taken. If you can think of some original phrases
that people use to search for your products or services, you can
post your ad next to the text that comes up when people search
for that phrase. Every time someone clicks on your ad to go to
your site, you pay google.com a nominal fee.

* Submit articles to free ezine sites. This is especially
helpful if you are a service provider. You can write, or hire
someone to write, an article for you about your area of
expertise. Give some free tips, offer your experience, and be
accessible in the text. Then at the bottom of the article, you
get a link to your website advertising your services. Every time
someone publishes your article in their ezine or newsletter, they
must use your web address at the bottom.

These are just a few of the many ways to ensure you get
“productive” traffic. Empty clicks are just that … empty…
and your wallet will stay that way, too!

Common Questions About VoIP

Unless you live in a bubble, you have probably been hearing allot of buzz lately about something called Voice Over IP (VoIP). Perhaps you have heard that you can use VoIP to get cheap or free long distance calling, even Internationally. The good news is that this is true!

VoIP, which stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol is an exciting synergy between computers and telephony, but don’t let that scare you. VoIP is just as easy to use as any ordinary telephone. So, you have heard the buzz and perhaps you are curious about taking the plunge and getting set up with VoIP service. Being so new, VoIP is still somewhat shrouded in mystery. Help is here! In this article we will answer several common questions most people have about VoIP Service and help clear up the confusion about the technology and how it can work for you.

What Exactly is VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol)?
VoIP is a new technology that makes use of your broadband connection to route your telephone calls over the internet, rather than using the traditional analog telephone lines. This has proven to be a very efficient and cost effective way to place phone calls to anywhere in the world.

Who Can I call?
This depends upon your service provider. There are a few different flavors of Voice Over IP Service. Most of the larger VoIP service providers you see advertised to the consumer market (such as Vonage, BlueSky, etc..) work just like your existing phone and enable you to call any phone, anywhere.

What’s It Going To Cost?
The cost for this service varies depending on the provider and the service plan you select. Currently, most service providers have plans that cost in the $10 – $25 monthly, which is considerably cheaper than ordinary phone service. Keep in mind that this service includes long distance calls. Usually, you can choose from several plans that vary in cost depending on the level of usage you desire. Most companies also offer an unlimited plan that includes unlimited long distance calls.

You will also be plesantly surprised to find that many services such as caller id, call forwarding, call waiting, three way calling, and even voice mail features often come standard with most VoIP plans. Another great benefit is that as it currently stands (in January 2006), the Government does not apply a tax to your VoIP service, unlike the additional taxes and fees that are applied to your standard phone bill. This can amount to a substantial savings alone, but this may only be a temporary benefit. As VoIP gains in popularity, it is more than likely that the Government will find a way to tax that as well.

Do I Need “Special Stuff”?
This depends on the provider, once again. One thing that you must have is an always on broadband internet connection. This means DSL or Cable Internet, for home users. Depending on whom you get service with, you will likely have to connect just regular phone to an adapter, or maybe purchase a special phone to use with the service. Check for specials before you sign up, sometimes the equipment is given away for free to encourage you to sign up. Regardless, the investment in hardware for home users of VoIP is very minimal, if it costs you at all.

Can I call 911?
You need to check with the provider to ensure that they do indeed provide this functionality. That said, in May 2005, the US Government ordered all interconnected VoIP Providers to provide 911 functionality to their subscribers.

Sounds… Too Good, What’s the Catch?
Well, there is a minor catch which is that if your internet goes out, so does your phone. This isn’t usually too big of a problem, however as most modern broadband ISPs do a great job of maintaining reliable service.

Where Do I Find VoIP Providers?
Usually, it is not important that you find a local provider just as long as the provider you choose is based in the same country. Therefore, the internet is a very valuable resource for finding and comparing VoIP providers.

Which one Do I choose?
The VoIP provider that you choose is a personal choice, as they all tend to work slightly differently. What sounds the most feasible for your setup and usage requirements is the best choice for you. Do keep in mind that this is a rapidly maturing technology and that changes are occurring all the time. You will want to choose a company that you feel will be able to provide you reliable service in the future.

How to Choose a Water Purifier: Water, Water Everywhere…But Not a Drop to Drink

free  Comments Off on How to Choose a Water Purifier: Water, Water Everywhere…But Not a Drop to Drink
Sep 072020

You’re thirsty after working in the sun on a hot Saturday afternoon. You head to the kitchen and pour yourself a cool glass of water and gulp it back greedily. The immediate effect is to cool you down, quench your thirst, and re-hydrate your body.

But did you give any thought to what its doing to your body? Its true that doctors suggest we drink 8 glasses of water a day, but if you dont drink the right kind of water,it can have a harmful effect on you!

Wait a minute, you say: “The right kind of water???” How many kinds of water are there?

The answer is: several! Water is not just a colorless liquid that quenches our parched tongues. Water is a necessary part of life and not just for keeping us hydrated. Most people dont know that watercontains other properties that allow you to live a healthy life:

1. Your water is supposed to deliver essential nutrients and minerals needed to live. For example, calcium, magnesium, potassium and trace elements — which doctors recommend we take in — can be found in some drinking waters, but not all. Are you spending an arm and a leg on supplements to ensure youre getting these minerals when instead you can get them simply and cheaply by drinking the right kind of water?

2. Your water should help balance out the acidic state of your body. Simply put, our bodies tissues produce waste that is acid in nature. When these acid wastes accumulate — because of pollutants, modern diet and stress — our tissues slowly deteriorate. Chronic diseases such as cancer, arthritis, diabetes and osteoporosis are associated with this acid condition. Water should help balance out our acidic state by being alkaline.

3. Like a natural stream, your water should have antioxidant properties. Oxidization hastens cell breakdown, while foods with antioxidant properties prevent it. You dont need anyone to tell you that you want a body that generates cells, not destroys them!

4. Your water should be free of contaminants. Many people are shocked to learn that there can be over 2000 contaminants in an ordinary glass of tap water.

So aside from quenching your thirst, water should also be full of minerals, be alkaline, and be antioxidant. But did you know that most water is exactly the opposite? And did you know that waters from many water purifier systems fail these basic requirements?

Its true. People buy water purification systems thinking that they will successfully filter out the “bad stuff” and keep the “good stuff” in water. Unfortunately, many systems, even the expensive ones, eitherdo an inadequate job of filtering out the “bad stuff” or they filter out everything — both good and bad. In fact, there are filtration systems for which people pay top dollar, that doctors recommend you dont drink from on a long term basis — because they can make your body even more acidic!

But before you completely swear off water, know this: its not all bad news. There are excellent purification systems that do a good job of creating healthy, alkaline water with as much antioxidant property as a glass of orange juice!

Protect the health of your family. Before believing the advertising claims of any system, and before spending a fortune on bottled water, really compare the choices in home purification systems. Find out:

1. How do the health benefits of each system compare? (contamination, acidity, antioxidant, minerals)

2. Whats the taste like? If you dont love the taste, you wont drink enough water.

3. How much will it cost me?
