Collecting Abundance In A Bucket

“Everything comes to us that belongs to us if we create the capacity to receive it.” — Rabindranath Tagore

I listened to a recording recently of two men having a conversation about the nature of abundance. In their conversation, the dominant metaphor for abundance was water. They said that we are like fish swimming in the ocean, not recognizing that we are immersed in abundance all the time.

As metaphors go, this is an intriguing insight into the nature of abundance. I have no idea of the consciousness level of a fish, but I imagine that fish don’t analyze their surroundings much. They live in water, but have no consciousness that they are swimming in water. And this is the point of the metaphor. We live in an abundant world, but don’t see abundance because it is the medium of our lives.

But there is a missing piece to the metaphor. The missing piece turns scarcity into real abundance in our lives. The missing piece involves a bucket.

Instead of the thinking of yourself as a fish swimming in the ocean, think of yourself in a rainstorm. Rain is on my mind these days. I am writing this in the middle of a heavy rainstorm. The jet stream from Alaska has dipped down farther south than usual, bringing rain and rain and more rain. The San Francisco Bay Area just broke the record for the number of rainy days in March. So far in April, it has rained every day. Forecasters predict the rain will continue for the next two weeks.

And so with rain on my mind, I ask: How is it that you can live in an abundant universe and not increase your own abundance? The answer is simple. You aren’t holding out your bucket.

If you want to collect rain water, you don’t just stand in the stuff. You do something to collect the water. You take along a bucket. You set up a cistern. You use water tanks. You dig reservoirs. Otherwise, the water rolls off you as water rolls off a duck.

“The world is full of abundance and opportunity, but far too many people come to the fountain of life with a sieve instead of a tank car… a teaspoon instead of a steam shovel. They expect little and as a result they get little.” — Ben Sweetland

And this is what sets apart those who live in abundance and those who live with lack. Those who live in abundance do something to collect the water. They take a bucket with them. They build cisterns, water tanks, and reservoirs. Those who live with lack just stand in the rain and get wet.

“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” — Acts 20:35

In other words, the ones who live in abundance know how to receive. Those who live in lack don’t.

One of the real reasons so many of us struggle with lack in our lives is that we internalized the words, “It is more blessed to give than receive.” This Bible verse, taken out of context, sets up a value judgment: Giving is better than receiving.

I’m not going to do the critical work involved in telling you what the Greek words mean, or putting in these words in their biblical context. Let’s just look at the words themselves and ask what is wrong with this kind of universalizing statement.

“If you want greater prosperity in your life, start forming a vacuum to receive it.” — Catherine Ponder

Consider breathing. You breathe in and you breathe out. Somehow, we all got the idea that it is okay to receive when we breathe. What if you decide that it is better to breathe out than to breathe in? You can’t live very long before you realize that breathing is a cycle. If you want to continue to live, you need to receive air into your lungs as much as you need to breathe it out.

Even the rain itself is a cycle. The rain falls on Earth, runs into the creeks and rivers, flows back into the ocean, gets picked up into clouds and falls on Earth again. Breath and rain are part of life’s cycles of giving and receiving. But when it comes to Bible verses, this awareness of the cyclical nature of life often gets replaced by categories straight out of Greek philosophy.

The ancient Greeks, especially Aristotle, divided reality into opposing pairs, and then attached value judgments that one element of each pair was better than the other. So “reason is better is than emotion.” “Male is more human than female.” “A free man is a more moral being than a slave,” and on and on.

Christian theology picked up many of these same value-laden dichotomies, and imposed them on biblical statements and stories. As a result, many Christian people learned to think in dual categories, with value judgments attached. One example is that Christian theology has taken this one verse: “It more blessed to give than to receive,” and turned it into a one-sided rule for life.

From this simplistic notion, many of us learned that giving is better than receiving. The obvious question is: How can you give what you don’t have? And if you give all you have, how can you give any more? To give, you have to have something to give. And to have something you have to receive it first.

“Asking is the beginning of receiving. Make sure you don’t go to the ocean with a teaspoon. At least take a bucket so the kids won’t laugh at you.” — Jim Rohn

Giving and receiving together are part of the cycle called abundance. Abundance is a dance, involving give and take, back and forth, ebb and flow.

And so, if you are wondering how to create abundance in your life, claim the metaphor of rain as abundance. If you are standing in the rain, hold out your bucket.

Comparison Shopping on Your Cell Phone

How often do you find something at a store and wonder how much cheaper you could get it online? Now you don’t have to wonder–you can call 1-888-FRU-SHOP. That’s the number for Frucall, a first-of-its-kind price-comparison shopping service currently in Beta.

How Does Frucall Work?

Frucall is pretty simple to use despite all the technology behind it:

Call 1-888-FRU-SHOP from any phone in the US.
At the prompt, enter the product’s bar code number. That’s the number directly below the bar code. (Hint: don’t forget the first and last digits, which may be offset from the rest of the code.)
A computerized voice confirms the product’s name and states the price, as well as shipping information.

The whole process takes about ten seconds. There are no signups, no downloads, and funky add-on services or charges to your phone bill.

Beta Limitations

Frucall has been launched to the public in Beta mode, though it has already been tested for more than two months on an invitation-only basis. The Beta service works well, though there are still a few limitations:

During the initial Beta period, Frucall only searches Amazon. The designers, however, are planning on adding additional sites soon. They eventually expect it to become an internet-wide ecommerce price comparison service for cell phones.
Because the Beta only searches Amazon, you can’t use it for things that aren’t sold on Amazon. The Beta is most valuable when you’re out shopping for clothes, appliances, electronics, books, music, DVDs and stuff like that, but for now you cannot use it for grocery shopping.
You won’t be able to buy the product using your phone until this feature is implemented sometime in summer 2006.

First-Ever Voice-Activated Mobile Price Comparison Service

Mobile phone technologies are all the rage these days, from movies to games to weather reports to shopping. For the most part, these technologies have a dedicated core of people who tend to be very comfortable navigating all the options on the little screens and touch pads of their cell phones. Right now, mobile applications aren’t as appealing to people who are less nimble-fingered, less technologically savvy–or just less patient.

Frucall, however, might just be the first mobile application both you and your grandmother could use. The usability factor for Frucall is high since it’s all voice-activated, and, ultimately, that’s what cell phones were made for: talking, not running software.

Looking out for people who actually like mobile software, Frucall’s designers are working on a WAP (mobile application) version as well, which will be available in a couple of months.

In the meantime, Frucall’s voice-activated interface is a blessing for die-hard cheapskates: they can call the toll-free number from a payphone without even having to pay cellphone airtime.

In short, if you’re serious about saving money, you just got another tool in your toolbox.

IT Marketing: Improving Postcard Response

free  Comments Off on IT Marketing: Improving Postcard Response

One of the biggest mistakes that I see when people are doing postcard mailings is there’s no urgency. What does that mean? That means that even if I’m interested in hiring you, there’s no compelling reason to do so now. I will just file your card away with my other computer related stuff.

Now if I got that postcard and it said this company is offering a free system analysis to the first 25 people that respond in the greater Anytown area, then I may have more reason to respond. They might say, “You know, our computers are really screwed up. This free system analysis, it says there’s no obligation, no purchase required or anything like that. I want to be one of the first 25. I’d better call them now.”

IT Marketing: Limit Your Response One Way or Another

If you don’t want to limit it to the number of people, limit it by date. The urgency and the scarcity can do absolute wonders. Talk to anyone who’s serious about direct mail or online marketing. Urgency and scarcity are extremely powerful motivators. If you want someone to take action with the response that you can measure, you must give them a deadline on your IT marketing materials.

IT Marketing: Learn from the Experts

If you want help with designing direct response marketing, you need to talk to a direct response marketing expert. In most cases, it’s going to be a copywriter or it’s going to be someone that’s retired from a big advertising company and specialized in direct response.

Just asking for general business advice from a business owner is not going to help you. The type of person that’s ideal for generating strong responses is someone that comes from a mail order background, direct mail background, does a lot of online advertising, or has worked for an advertising agency that’s done a lot of direct selling where there’s measured response.

The Bottom Line about IT Marketing

The key things are urgency, scarcity, deadlines, compelling headlines, compelling points of pain and something that motivates them to take action now.

The Elements of Good Design

Aug 032020

Whether you build a website by hiring the services of a professional web designer, purchasing ready-made design templates, or using your own HTML skills, good design features are important if you want to create a successful and popular online destination. How often have you come across a website that was frustrating to browse? I’m sure the answer is, “All the time.”

Unfortunately, there are many terrible websites floating around in cyberspace – and that includes professionally designed ones! When it comes down to it, good design is good design and it doesn’t matter if you pay $1000 or $20: if certain design elements are left out in the cold during the design process, the usability of your site will definitely suffer.

Even the experienced web surfer may not realize just how important a website’s design is to visitors, but the truth is, the design is critical, especially if you plan to earn revenue from the site, want to attract a lot of people, and keep them coming back for more.

Well-designed websites make it easy for visitors to find what they’re looking for – be it information, a product, or anything else you might offer on your site. A nicely designed site creates a good impression, allows visitors to surf frustration-free, and gives them exactly what they’re looking for. If visiting your site is a positive experience for the user, it will be easy to achieve success, no matter what you plan to do with your site. There are companies that can help you create the website that’s just right for your business. One such site that offers good design at reasonable prices is http://templatedogma.com/.

Good Design – What to Shoot For

Rule #1 – The number one rule to good web design: keep it simple. In fact, this rule is the foundation upon which all the other good design elements are built. It may seem obvious, but many websites miss the mark when it comes down to the art of simplicity. It’s not always easy to pare down a website, especially if you want to present your visitors with a lot of information or impress them with your high-tech capabilities.

It can be tempting to fill the site with animations, sounds, pictures, video, and loads of text – but this is a bad idea if you want people to feel comfortable browsing your site. Ensure that everyone can easily and quickly navigate their way among the pages of your site without getting stuck in the proverbial mud. Specifically, 1- and 2-column designs are easy on the eyes, allowing you to read from top to bottom with ease. The user feels less frustrated reading straightforward pages without a lot of cheesy distractions and useless gobbledygook.

Rule #2 – Use 3D effects and other graphical elements, such as cute icons, in moderation. Too much stuff on a page can be overwhelming, but you don’t want a website to be stark. An added touch of artistic design here and there can be just what a boring website needs to infuse a little spice into the mix without burning your tongue off!

This also applies to the background color you choose. Most well-designed websites these days stick to soft, neutral colors. This is especially effective if you want to make brighter colors on the page really pop.

Rule # 3 – White space and large text are your friend. The eye needs room to understand all the elements on a page properly, so don’t clutter things up unnecessarily. Make room by leaving wide margins between elements and the pages of your site will have a fresh, clean look.

Secondly, make sure the text is large enough to read easily. At the same time, it is perfectly acceptable to use smaller text, but to make the most important information stand out from the crowd, ensure that it is larger than normal. People will be able to find what they’re looking for faster if they can scan the page for content.

Rule # 4 – Common sense navigation. The navigation buttons you employ should not require a degree in astrophysics to understand. Instead, navigation buttons and bars should be easy to figure out from the get-go, and easy to use. They should also be consistent throughout the whole website and let users know exactly where they are at any given time, no matter what page they’re viewing. Finally, if your site is very large, provide people with a site map to make navigating your stretch of the information superhighway a piece of cake.

Overall, the elements of good website design are achievable if you stick to a few simple, clear-cut rules. Following them will ensure that visitors to your site won’t regret stopping by, so you can sit back, relax, and reap the rewards.

If you’re thinking about an easy way to generate income online quickly, legitimately and with very little cash outlay affiliate marketing is your best bet. Affiliates are making lots of money these days because affiliate programs are a win-win for the merchant and affiliate.

If you’re thinking about an easy way to generate income online quickly, legitimately and with very little cash outlay affiliate marketing is your best bet. Affiliates are making lots of money these days because affiliate programs are a win-win for the merchant and affiliate.

What is affiliate marketing?

Very simply, affiliate marketing is based on the sharing of revenues between the website owner and an online merchant who actually produces and sells a tangible product.

This is accomplished when you, the affiliate (who markets and advertises the merchant products or services) refer visitors to the merchant website who then ends up making a purchase. Merchants love affiliates because they provide free advertising and marketing. Affiliates love merchants who offer these plans because it allows them all the benefits of earning great income with none of the headaches of owning a typical business.

Here is an example:
The majority of affiliate websites are information based – not hard sell product advertisements. Say you have a website all about guitars. People will search for all kinds of guitar related stuff, “guitars”, ” guitar accessories”, ” guitar repair” , “guitar strings” etc.. You get the picture. People visit your site filled with great information – people trust you – you are giving them what they want and you’re recommending guitar products you feel strongly about.

You may have an affiliate link that leads to guitarstuff.com ( merchant site ) where your visitor ends up buying a box of strings. You just made the commission. It’s awesome..

So what are the main advantages of affiliate Marketing?

1. You don’t need your own products to sell

2. You don’t have to process any payment

3. You don’t have to handle or ship the products

4. You don’t have to handle any complaints

5. You don’t have to pay anything to join

6. You can get started immediately, part-time and if you want, gradually go full time..

The nature of affiliate sales marketing is based on doing all the heavy work upfront, which basically requires learning some basic marketing techniques and how to promote and pre-sell products. Once that is done much of the business virtually runs itself.

So now that you understand the basics lets get this understood. It takes knowledge, study and patience. Anyone that tells you any different is dead wrong. Fortunately, there are structured ways to shorten the learning curve, many programs work… many are scams. Watch your wallet, because the scams are hard to detect.

If you hate working for someone else and want to gradually become independent, affiliate marketing is the best online business opportunity out there. Start learning as much as you can now! .. and be willing to spend some time studying. I’m sure you’ll find it truly exiting when you log into your paypal or click bank account and see commissions generated by people you’ve never seen!

Engaging Prospects: Two Vital Elements to Dropping Resistance!

free  Comments Off on Engaging Prospects: Two Vital Elements to Dropping Resistance!

Two very vital keys that will make a diffrence in how you approach customers and others in your life to create a positive interaction to get positive outcomes. When you can engage others you are more than half way to influencing them!

You pick up the phone, the decision maker is on the line, countless letters and attempts have been made to get to this point, your great benefit line comes out, response; “not interested, click”.

Want to be able to “engage” customers with out creating resistance? Here are 2 vital elements everyone needs to be influential and persuasive.

Now it does not matter if we are using the phone, walking in cold or in a retail setting. We need to avoid adding any additional resistance in the other persons mind. There is this avoidance of “sales people” in 80% of our population including other sales people. This is mainly because of product pushing, “I don’t want to be sold something”.

Here is the key; do I understand what the other person really wants? Do I have an idea of how to talk in their “language”? Can I ask a question that will drop resistance and engage them in conversation?

It has been proven time and time again that shoving your product in front of someone will create resistance to you and your product. Review the first and second key from the last article (4 Keys to Selling), your customer buys the “results” of your product/service/idea because it fixes, fills or satisfies their perceived needs or wants. This means your product/service/idea is just a means to and end, not the main issue.

1. Our first action is to take the time and determine just what is it that our product/service/idea does for the other person. Determine what the real results are from using your product/service/idea. Here are some examples.

A business owner might be looking for more time, better productivity, reducing hassle in some area, freeing up capital for something else.

A young mother with 3 toddlers might be looking for best value, more time, better direction, safety, even just a listening ear.

A plant manager might be looking for ways to get better compliance, reduce down time and get his numbers up, keeping his boss off his back.

Think of your past and current customers, what is it your product/service/idea did for them? What did it reduce, take away, eliminate or create? Also keep in mind that people have a tendency to avoid loss more than obtain gain. This means if you can provide a better “today”, it generally has more power than a better “tomorrow”.

In a recent training program we worked with a real conflict situation a participant was involved with. We ended up with over 50 “what’s in it for the other party” points that could be used to engage the other party in a positive way! It took 5 minutes!

2. Second you want to “engage” your prospect or customer in a positive way. The best way is to develop questions that can “engage” rather than repel.

Before we start, we have to understand what results your product can potentially provide for your customer. Here are some examples.

Office equipment: Reduce work load, eliminate paper, eliminate errors, streamline process, reduce labor expense, free up time, create in-house opportunities, and eliminate daily frustrations.

Real Estate Agent: Eliminate wasted time, reduce the stress of selling/buying, assure legalities are covered, target the market, professional image, experienced input, negotiations services, and eliminate the hassles.

Now there are many more and I suggest you create at least 20 for your product. Here is a hint, list the facts about your product, then all the benefits related to that fact and then ask, “What are the results to my customer/other party because of these benefits”.

Let’s now apply these to questions that “engage” our customers. We want to use “open” type questions that get people talking. If we don not have them talking we have only partial engagement. Open questions use what, why, how in their structure.
“Mr. Jones, what effect would a reduced work load have on your staff?”
“If you could eliminate both paper and errors in your current procedures, what would happen for you?”
“Just suppose the frustrations you face on a daily basis were gone, how would it change things for you?”

Now put yourself in the customer’s shoes, how would you react to the previous questions versus this?
“We sell copiers and office machines of the highest quality with excellent service, when could we meet to determine your needs?”

How many words are in this question that create resistance or could be rejected by the customer? Compare that to the three questions above, which ones “engage” and which question repels.

Now if your customer is a “D-I”* type you usually can ask for appointments or get quickly to the point. If you have an “S-C”* type they may want more info which you can give in the form of a quick example of another application you have done, not a litany of your products facts and benefits.

This has proven to be a much more viable way to engage customers and people in general than talking about your “stuff”. People are concerned about their issues and problems, not your product or you. Engage them by asking about what a “result” might do to their concerns and issues. You will find them much more open and willing to talk.

One of our participants in the Internet Technologies asked only one of these type questions and 20 minutes later closed on a million dollar deal! Just one question! The customer did all the talking and sold themselves. The power of engagement!

How You Can Achieve Internet Marketing Success

There are over 80 million websites on the Internet today. Even within selected categories there are millions of sites. For example, type ‘home business’ in the google search engine and nearly 6 million websites are listed.

To state the obvious, competition is fierce. Your website, no matter how unique you think it might be, can easily get lost in the sea of competing websites. What can you do to make sure your website obtains success? We will discuss 5 key points to successful Internet marketing.

1. This first point is probably the most important. Not only is it a free form of gaining visibility for your site, but it is one of the most effective. Article writing and submitting them to article directories increases traffic to your site. How? Most article submissions sites will not pay for your article, but they allow you to create an author’s resource box. Inside this box you can include a live link to your website. This allows the reader to visit your site if something in your article compels him to do so. The more articles you write, the more of expert you become in the eyes of potential customers. Also, these articles are made available for reprinting in e-zines or other websites. The only requirement is that whoever uses your article must include the resource box with the link to your website. Just think how many back links you are creating to your website if you just write one to two articles a day.

2. Another great idea is giving away free items. Costco does it without fail. On any given day you will see free sample stands strategically placed throughout the mega-club store. This concept truly works. You can use it by giving away samples of your product. If your site is based on selling information of affiliate programs, you could offer a free mini-course or newsletter on your topic of expertise. You can also create an e-book and give it away without charge. Giving away free stuff keeps your business and website in the minds of potential customers.

3. No matter how unique you think your idea is, the reality is that someone else has probably thought of it too. Try to find those that share similar marketing ideas as yours. By choosing a network partner you can share links and refer customers to each other. Be careful when choosing a networking partner. Who you partner with is a direct reflection on you and your business. Make sure your partner of choice is reputable and legitimate.

4. Search engine optimization is a key to Internet marketing success. You have to make the search engines place your website near the top of its list. This is a sure way to increase traffic to your site. Article writing, mentioned earlier, is a good way to do this for free. However, many search engines allow you to purchase a ranking for your website. One way this is done is through pay-per-click programs. In these programs, you create an ad, choose a bidding price and only pay when someone clicks on your ad. This gives you instant traffic to your site. The good news is that your activity in a pay-per-click search engine can help your site get ranked in the free search engines, too.

5. The final point is to expand your area of advertising. Too many fledgling Internet marketers feel that since their business is online, they can only advertise online. This is a big mistake and many are prone to make it. The fact is, not many Internet marketers are taking advantage of the various advertising options. Use this to your advantage. Advertising in newspapers, t.v., and radio are great options to consider.

Millions upon millions of website are floating around in cyberspace. To avoid having your website floating in limbo forever, utilize the 5 steps mentioned above. These 5 steps can help your Internet marketing become a success.
