I’ve heard this question several (OK, many) times in the past year. What gluten and dairy free protein supplement do you recommend? And quite honestly, I was flummoxed.
Although I am have celiac disease, I have not had to contend with dairy sensitivity. I have always used whey or casein proteins, which are milk-based. Whey protein isolate has had the lactose removed, and so many with a lactose intolerance can tolerate a straight whey isolate. However, some with a dairy sensitivity cannot tolerate even a whey isolate.
I am the first to tell you when there is something I am unfamiliar with. In these cases, I usually run around in a fairly obsessive state of learning until I have found an answer. My friends, I am here to share my new found knowledge of the dairy and gluten free protein powder world.
There are 5 basic types of gluten and dairy free protein powders. (This is what I am aware of as being fairly common and easy to find.
The five I will be addressing here are egg white protein, gemma (pea) protein, rice protein, soy protein, and hemp protein.
Egg White Protein
Egg white protein is created by seperating the yolk and converting the white to powder. It tends to be a bit high when it comes to creating sulfur with digestion. (The polite way of saying it can give you WAY smelly gas.) Upon mixing it is a thinner consistency. In my opinion best when mixed with other types of protein, for both the taste, texture, and certainly for the gas factor.
Gemma (Pea) Protein
This is fairly new to the scene, becoming more popular when whey protein prices went up a couple years back. It is, just as it sounds, derived from peas, making it a vegan-friendly option. Gemma mixes into a thick consistency and has a slightly nutty flavor. The Gemma that I have tested is also non-GMO. Gemma can be used on its own or mixed with another type of protein such as…..
Rice Protein
Also a vegan friendly option. The rice protein I tested is also non GMO and derived from brown rice. Rice protein mixes to a thinner consistency and has a gritty texture, but a “cleaner” flavor.
Soy Protein
Soy protein is derived from defatted soybean flakes. There has been much media controversy and conflicting research about the use of soy supplements in the diet, as well as the GMO situation (GMO=genetically modified organism.) That is far too much for the scope of this article, but be aware that it exists. You can find research and articles to back up both sides of the story, from the “soy is evil!” camp to the “soy is the best food ever!” camp. Make an educated and independent decision, whatever your decision may be. It is a vegan friendly option.
Hemp Protein
Despite many individuals wishing otherwise, this hemp does not make you high. Sorry, folks, it would be a lot more expensive if it did. Hemp protein does have a couple of unique characteristics though. Hemp protein contains essential fatty acids and fiber! In a 30 gram serving you would get 4 grams of fiber and 6 grams of fat along with your 15 grams of protein. The others contain a bit more protein per serving, averaging 24-25 grams, and little to no fat and fiber. I have not tasted hemp yet. Hemp is a vegan friendly option.
As you can see, there are many options available to supplement your protein intake. Preference often comes down to personal taste, so try a few to see what you like best.

What is free-motion quilting? Many of us who are experienced quilters often ask this question. On the first hand, quilts are the finished products from needle works made by hands or with machine where layer or pudding material between two layers of fabrics. The distinct characteristic of quilts from other sewed articles is that numerous runs of stitches are worked across the sandwich layers. Usually, quilts consists of small pieces of fabrics cut into small sizes or strips sewed together to create a complicated pattern. The quilting stitches followed the seams between the elements of the design.
Quilt-making or simply quilting is a classic art and can be an individual or group activity. The resulting quilts which can take many hours to complete, is often treasured as an article of art. Quilting requires some patience and interest. Patience is required throughout all levels of quilting. It is not ever a rushed job. A quilter fills a sense of accomplishment for every quilt they made. In the present days there are many commercially-produced all-cotton quilts, but although beautiful, these quilts don’t give personal satisfaction to the quilter.
On the other hand, free-motion quilting is an advanced technique that allows the fabric to move freely. It is here in that quilter can express their creativity. Free-motion quilting utilizes sewing machine that has its feed dog dropped and using a darning foot. Darning foot or free-motion foot is a special rounded toe presser foot, which travels above the fabric. The quilter manually feeds the fabric through the machine, and is able to disengage the feed dogs. Feed dogs are the metal teeth that help in directing the fabric. Both machine and bobbin are threaded in the same way as a normal, straight stitch. With a quilt under the presser foot, the quilter presses both hands on the fabric about 2 inches on either side of the presser foot.
In motion quilting, slow and steady hands are the key elements. The quilter moves their hands slowly while the needle is moving rapidly. The winning combination for even stitches in free-motion quilting is slow and steady hands and a quick needle. These are done by more experienced quilters by using rubber fingertips on the index and middle finger on both hands, thus improving control and helps feed the fabric more smoothly.
One of the challenges that even seasoned sewers experience is creating even stitches. The length of stitches is determined by the speed at which the quilter speeding the fabric.
Free-motion quilting resembles the process of making embroidery. The quilter creates his own design as they manipulate the stitches. Free-motion quilter appreciates the freedom of creativity where in they are not tied to a pattern. In a machine or computer generated pattern, and evenly elaborated design fabric, it is ultimately the machine, not the quilter is the one executing the design. Floral, elegant loops, paisley curves are popular stitches which can be very well and easily in free-motion quilting. Where as the stipple stitch quilting which is free-hand stitching is often suggested for novice quilters to gain skills.

In these uncertain economic times, everyone I talk to is either trying to hold their position in their current job, or have already lost their job. Unfortunately for most people, a job is the only means of support that they consider.Sadly, we (and I include myself) have all been programed by the very system that we support, to be locked into a “job” mentality. Did I mention that “JOB” is an acronym for some as “Journey Of the Broke” or others as “Just Over Broke”? Take your pick.
I want to let you know right now that I have been liberated from the “job” mentality, and you can be as well. I must tell you that it is not easy to break free, but it is possible. You should consider that, in some respects, breaking free of your “job” mentality is no more difficult than the struggle you endure every day, now, to hold onto your current job, or find another one in this economy.
There are myriad avenues for earning a very respectful income, to those who have been liberated from a “job” mentality. It all boils down to Free Enterprise. The whole American economy is built on Free Enterprise, but we have been corrupted to think that the only way to earn income is to work a job. Oh, don’t get me wrong, there is nothing inherently wrong with working for someone else. It all depends upon the relationship between employer and employee; and the contract or terms of employment.
For many working people today, both the relationship between employer and employee, and the terms of employment, only insure the subordination of the employee to the employer. A systematic programming makes sure that few if any will ever break free to control their own destiny. You will work for forty years or more for someone else or many someone else’s. During that time you will be trading hours for dollars, and you will belong to them. They determine when you get out of bed, when you go to bed, and when you eat. Many times they determine what you eat. They determine what days you work, and what days you have “freedom”(??). Employers’ influence you and your family’s interactions and futures.
Some employers have attempted to appear benevolent to their workers. Fifty or sixty years ago, more employers appeared to be more sincere in their caring attitudes towards their employees. As America’s place in a shifting ,more globally diverse economy has been drastically altered, employers are, for the most part, indifferent to the condition or status of their workers. Today many American workers have been thrown away; or to use common cliches, they have been “thrown under the bus”. Especially those who gave their hearts and souls to the CORPORATION. Many workers today are just part of the machine. You work, to fund the lifestyles of the rich and famous. With the onset of age, you are pushed aside and almost totally forgotten about, until you expire; you die. You leave behind another group of people to go through the same routine, again and again. Your children, and your children’s children are only part of the American economic machine, with its replaceable parts.
To break free of this madness requires a change of mind, a change of self image. You must come to believe that you can be your own “boss”, and you can. No one can do this for you, but others can show you the way. Others can coach you, teach you how to make a break to more freedom. To make the break, you must first understand how you have been programmed. You must come to understand the dynamics of the the systematic program that has made you just so much cannon fodder for those you work for. The life freeing information is easily obtained, but you cannot be lazy about gaining your and your family’s freedom.
Let me ask you, are you free today, or are you rationalizing your freedom? Did you know that rationalizing is simply telling yourself rational lies (that thought is from the late Dr. Maxwell Maltz in his book Psycho-Cybernetics)? I could go on and on, but this is enough to chew on for now.

The internet is filled with information regarding information these wireless no contract plans. If you want a no contract option, then going pre paid is the best option at hand. Prepaid mobiles are also known as pay as you go phones. You need to buy recharge vouchers and recharge your use the talk time. You can recharge the way you wish to, without being tied to one particular contract for a long time. They probably come with short term plans like monthly plans or fortnight plans. If you do not want to continue with a particular plan, you can discontinue and start using a different one.
